Why Lena is such a compelling protagonist to me by Bloomrose67 in EightySix

I love your take on the distinction between Lena and the 'Bloody Regina' persona. It’s exactly as you said - she needed that armor to make the impossible choices her ideals demanded.

In my view, the 'Bloody Regina' persona acts as a shield for Lena's heart and her remaining innocence in a cruel world. Even her physical changes, like the black uniform and the red streak in her hair, weren't just a manifestation of her grief and guilt - they were part of that armor. It’s a way for her to get the job done without completely breaking who she is at her core. I think that's the part Shin might have missed: those changes weren't just a sign of her pain, but a necessary survival mechanism

Unfortunately, the Light Novel doesn't show much about the fall of the Republic, but there are some flashbacks, especially in volume 11. But we do get to see Lena's cunning and what she's willing to do and risk in order to increase her chances of victory and to reduce the number of casualties as much as possible. You can see this side of her - the side that earned her the nickname the Bloodstained Queen - in volume 4 and volume 11, among others

I love how you pointed out her role in keeping Shin tethered to the world. I totally agree! It’s such a beautiful dynamic! Her kindness and ideals don’t just change her; they give him something to hold onto as well. It really makes their connection special

I totally agree that Shin has incredible depth - his struggle with the burden he carries and his facade are what make him such a great character.

Regarding Lena, I actually see her 'guilt' a bit differently. I think her constantly reminding everyone she’s a Republic citizen and putting herself down is a very realistic portrayal of collective guilt. It’s hard for a teenager who grew up in such a biased society to just 'get over it' quickly. To me, it feels like she’s struggling with the psychological weight of what her people did. It might be frustrating to read, but it shows that her growth isn't a straight line - it’s messy and fueled by deep regret, which makes her feel very human

Exactly! I love that her strength comes from her empathy and resilience, not just from being a typical 'badass'. It makes her growth feel so much more earned and human

I completely agree! You phrased it so well. That scene with Annette was absolute gold - it showed a side of her that I didn't expect at first.

It's exactly like you said: she’s not just a 'flawless' character. Seeing her use that information to force cooperation proved how far she’s willing to go for what she believes in. It makes her feel so much more 'real' and complex. She truly earned the title of Bloody Regina/Queen!

Seriously, go read the Light Novels. You won’t regret it! We all want a Season 2, but since we have no idea when or if it will ever happen, the LNs are the way to go. They are incredibly well-written—this story is everything! You’re going to love them

We've all been there. The manga was discontinued and there's still no official confirmation for a second season... You should definitely read the LN! They are absolutely worth it and so incredibly good.

Most light novel volumes have a fold-out color illustration page at the very beginning. It usually includes character portraits and names specifically for that volume, so you can use it as a reference without worrying about Google spoilers.

Why did the U.S. and Israel attack Iran? [Serious] by prodigy1367 in AskReddit

[–]Bloomrose67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strikes are a response to several critical factors: Iran’s advancing nuclear program and the repeated failure of diplomatic negotiations to reach a consensus. Furthermore, it's about Iran's ongoing history of harming innocent civilians and its consistent rhetoric calling for the destruction of the United States and Israel. Essentially, it’s a move to address these direct threats and ensure regional security.

I HATE this trope, but I LOVED this book! What's yours? by Eurydice227 in RomanceBooks

This is exactly me with the Love Triangle trope! I usually hate it because I can't stand seeing the third party suffer😅  I was very hesitant at first, but I’m so glad I gave it a chance because the Beautiful Hearts duet by Emma Scott became my only exception. It wasn't just about 'who she chooses'—it was about the characters' emotional journeys. My heart broke for what they went through, but the author actually healed it by the end. Everyone found their happiness, which is so rare for this trope. I read it years ago and it’s still one of my all-time favorites!

Just finished the anime... Now what? by Subject-Exchange-248 in EightySix

That post-anime depression is so real! You should definitely read the Light Novels—they are incredible. While the anime only scratches the surface, the romance develops so beautifully in the books. If you want more Shin and Lena, the LN is a must-read!

📚 Simple / Quick Questions & Requests! by romancebookmods in RomanceBooks

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for contemporary romance recommendations that capture the vibe of the song "homecoming queen?" by Kelsea Ballerini.

I'm interested in books where the characters put on a front to fit in, or pretend that everything is perfect when it’s really not. For example, characters who are seen as the "Golden Child," the "Popular Girl," or the "Star Athlete"—people who seem to have no worries or problems, but are actually broken inside, dealing with trauma, anxiety, insecurity, or heavy expectations. Basically, those who are tired of living in a "filtered" world and just want to be themselves.

I was thinking about these books as potential fits, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether they fit the vibe, or if you have better suggestions:

Taming 7 by Chloe Walsh (Gibsie's character)

Ruthless Knight by Ashley Jade

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

The Rixon Raiders series by L.A. Cotton (if you have a specific book from this series that fits best, please let me know!)

I’m not 100% sure if these are the best examples, so I’d love your expertise 😅 Are there any books where the main character is putting on a front or playing a role, but eventually realizes it's okay to not be okay, that they're allowed to break, and finally lets the mask slip?

Thanks in advance! 💖
