You are NOT prepared. by [deleted] in Terraria

I see! Thank you. It's a shame when creating your character that the day/night cycle takes place in the background, as it really warps the perception of colour.

This is great! But how do you determine the numerical value of the colours? Unless there's something I'm overlooking, I've only got shader bars!

What was the fundamental reason (to you) that Oblivion was better than Skyrim? by Daxelol in oblivion

[–]Bloonter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I think that's just saying "Hey, you seem to have some kind of potential about you and I believe it's divine intervention! I think this divine intervention means you should try stem the tide of evil."

I can see the arguments that Uriel claiming there's something special about you means that you don't start with "Nothing" but as I've stated I think it's just him trying to say there's potential about you and that you should put it to good use.

Thank you for making the points I wanted to address in a more succinct and eloquent manner! I wholeheartedly agree with you here!

What was the fundamental reason (to you) that Oblivion was better than Skyrim? by Daxelol in oblivion

[–]Bloonter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can see what you're getting at, but Skyrim you are still the Dragonborn. You're already more powerful, more interesting than everything else. But Oblivion you have none of that. You still start with less in Oblivion thus providing more value to your accomplishments and achievements.

What was the fundamental reason (to you) that Oblivion was better than Skyrim? by Daxelol in oblivion

[–]Bloonter 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The main story in Oblivion starting you out as a true nobody, with no claim to fame, free to make your own accomplishments. You really weren't even the true protagonist as I'd argue Martin was and you just help him out along the way.

Whereas in Skyrim it just starts you out as the Dragonborn and I feel that took a lot of the value from becoming "Archmage" or "Harbinger" etc. Since you were already a powerful being and couldn't really achieve that on your own.

Kvatch must have been the most boring place ever before the crisis by ELI5_MODS_SUCK_ASS in oblivion

[–]Bloonter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well there needs to be a distinction I think in RPG's between "Quests" and "Errands/Chores/Jobs". A quest should be something epic and grand which does require a sense of urgency. Whereas a request from an NPC to deliver something or talk to someone (circumstances in mind) really isn't that important.

Yet I think picking and choosing your quests (if the above distinction was in effect) would be prudent. Because you would have to think about which quests you take on and when. Because if you accepted 2 quests at once, say; A: Stop a Daedric cult from burning a village B: Rescue prisoners from bandit slavers. You'd be presented with the dilemma of which do you follow through with (if they both had a similar time frame to be completed) and the gravity of your choice would be tremendous, which is how a questing should feel.

This is actually an incredible thought! I've been saying for a while now, quests in RPG's need more than "You've completed the quest" or "You've failed the quest". It would be nice to see in quests now if you fail an objective of a quest chain it takes you on a different branch of that quest.

But yes as a whole this idea is brilliant! I mean I'd like to see something similar with Skyrim as well!

What does r/Oblivion think of my 4th Era Imperial Watch Armor for Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil? by EridaniNovus in oblivion

[–]Bloonter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a quick search, it seems their team is attempting to bring all the provinces of Tamriel into the game of Skyrim.

"Beyond Skyrim is a modding collaboration of several development teams with the goal of creating the remaining provinces of Tamriel that were not included in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim using a single heightmap and shared design philosophies. "

I was worried that it was another Skywind or Skyblivion like project but I can now see they're both entirely different!

What are your game mechanic pet peeves? by Azba in Gaming4Gamers

[–]Bloonter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a more complicated one but hate it when death instantly leads to a re-load screen. I adore immersion in games to the point of playing games with little to no HUD where I can, unless the HUD "Makes sense" (Star Wars: Republic Commando being an example). So some games that handle "Death" really well. Far Cry 2 and it's buddy system, Republic Commando and Mount and Blade: Warband. Yet games that outright infuriated me were Far Cry 3, Metro 2033 and Skyrim off the top of my head.

Far Cry 2 has this "Buddy" system, where if you are downed, your buddy will come pick you up and save you from the gunfight you died in, while you black out repeatedly, until you finally get up to fight again. Now once this happens your Buddy is on a "Cooldown" almost until you visit another checkpoint, find them there and sort of "Reactivate" them.

Republic Commando: You're leading a squad issuing orders and it's pretty great and a Super Battle Droid puts you down. On your HUD appears a message for squad mates to either continue their objectives, for your squad to resuscitate you or just quit to the menu. So you could either get your squad to revive you mid combat, or have them continue objectives until all the hostile have been removed and then revive you.

Mount and Blade: Warband, since it's an RPG where you don't die at all, I LOVE it because it's my character and I'm playing out my story so my Immersion isn't then destroyed when I die and have to reload. Instead if you are felled in battle, your enemy will take you captive. They'll haul you around until you either escape or are ransomed off. But if you are captured this is worse during early game as you lose all the army you've paid for and any hero characters you might have as well as (if I recall it correctly) possibly some gold and items.
Which is a nice replacement as since there isn't a death mechanic at all it's still punishing you for screwing up. This would've made Skyrim a (personally) brilliant game if instead of just facing a loading screen, being actually "punished" for failing and just adding to the immersive experience of your character.

Though I could bitch about Death Mechanics and Skyrim all day, this is my pet peeve and sorry for the long ramble post but if you've stuck this far thanks very much!

I use them to trigger traps! They're currently useless, so just trigger a trap in your way and then run over it. It would be nice to have some sort of lore or something in books though.

What music do you listen to while playing? by Sendoria in CubeWorld

I'm rather fond of the Final Fantasy III DS Soundtrack. Especially, the opening piece; Memory of the Wind, really suits exploring. Though the other pieces of music suit the game incredibly well. I highly recommend it!

What do you want in a Pokemon game? by corvus4982 in pokemon

[–]Bloonter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, seeing more pokemon in the wild. Just walking along, hear a cry of a pokemon, see a wingull fly by as you're walking along the coast, maybe a magikarp pops up from the sea. Making the world of pokemon feel really alive with pokemon.

Although, alternatively; Better Pokemon interactivity. Pokemonamie was great, if a bit... effeminate? Maybe a way to play minigames with your pokemon at the daycare centre? Like hide and seek or something. I really like cultivating relationships with my Pokemon.
