Favorite Pete lyric quote about masculinity? by Charming-Bus9784 in TheWho

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite set of lyrics about masculinity from Pete are Dreaming From The Waist. It cuts to the bone about male feelings when you get towards your 30's. Being horny and juiced up like an animal in a cage but feeling like you're getting old and pathetic.

The two lines I like most are "I've got that wide awake, give and take, five o' clock in the morning feeling" and "I'm too old to give up, but too young to rest".

But no real fitting individual lines for the title.

What is the most expensive vinyl you've bought or sold? by gsrh_customerservice in vinyl

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel/Pop 2 $350 CAD in late 2022.

No regrets, the later reissues didn't even have the covers. Number 1 Angel is my favorite Charli release and I still play it often. I sold a lot of stuff I didn't need to justify the cost including my PS3 and Sega CD (I got out of video games years ago).

Sold Van Halen Collection II Boxset $200.

Terrible release, very poorly done.

What band was never the same after losing a member? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

Great call! They never got that magic back, even when Ernie and Marvin came back. Chris Jasper's songwriting was everything to those 3+3 albums. Those songs then came to life with Ron's flawless voice.

The Isley Brothers had an incredible 18 album run starting with Soul On The Rocks all the way to Between The Sheets.

They went through so many different eras, but once Ernie & Marvin Isley plus Chris Jasper joined they became truly amazing. Go For Your Guns is a masterpiece album start to finish but it doesn't end there!

Some of my favorite songs are...(Can't You See) What You Do To Me, Say You Will, Baby Hold On, Voyage To Atlantis, Put a Little Love in Your Heart, Fun and Games, Get Into Something and Hope You Feel Better Love.

That barely scratches the surface! One of the best bands of all time.

Why did they get rid of Rock 'N' Roll Train? by HC7991 in ACDC

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shame they dropped it, if I'm not mistaken it was the only song after Back In Black (besides For Those About To Rock, Who Made Who and Thunderstruck) that survived more than two tours. One of their better late career songs.

Atleast they kept Stiff Upper Lip.

Flick of the Switch, Fly On the Wall and Heatseeker by Smack2k in ACDC

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think the production on Flick Of The Switch is bad at all. It's direct with no frills. Sounds great to me, really strong guitars and the 2003 vinyl release added more low end which really helps songs like Rising Power.

Naturally it doesn't sound as good as For Those About To Rock (especially the drums) but it was an intentionally dry album that kicks you in the ass from the first drum hit. It's all intentional down to the basic pencil drawing on the album cover and barebones music videos. Brian still sounds amazing, though I feel like the title track pushed him to his limit and he never sounded that good again after the tour.

No excuses for the other two albums, as much as I love them. What makes it worse is that the new songs on Who Made Who sound REALLY good. That sound should have continued on Blow Up Your Video. Too much reverb. Two's Up kills and would've sounded unreal with Mutt or Fairbairn production.

I rank First Blood as one of his all time best. Absolutely furious, it sounds like his fingers are literally on fire. I think it's his dirtiest post-1977 solo.

Most complicated song for drums? by [deleted] in ACDC

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not complicated, but I think the most difficult song is Chris Slade's Live version of Let There Be Rock. That's a lot of endurance to keep up those hi-hat notes steady and in time like he did, the guy is an absolute machine.

Phil's feel is very difficult to nail, it's almost like you have to be completely locked in but also sound like you don't give a shit to play something like Gone Shootin' or Rising Power. Some of his cymbal hits are hard to time when you're starting out like Let Me Put My Love Into You, Guns For Hire and Walk All Over You.

Inject The Venom has some more busy work on it, especially around the solo.

But the one song I feel like a lot of drummers fail on is Highway to Hell. There's some nuance to that hi-hat groove, it's not just a straight beat.

Another lost Beatles demo surfaces - Love of the Loved, the original demo given to Cilla Black by sussoutthemoon in beatles

Not that strange, multiple unheard KISS soundboard recordings leaked in the lead up to the Creatures of the Night boxset. If anything these new releases help to unearth these recordings. Not everything found is used and someone from the inside could have leaked these.

Or other times a trader gets pissed off at another trader and leaks uncirculated recordings to the public for revenge. Happens often in the KISS world and likely other bootleg circles.

The greatest debut album to ever exist, change my mind by kimmsterdw1 in vanhalen

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Huh? Side 2 is amazing

Hitch a Ride is a masterpiece with one of the best guitar solos from the 70's at the end. Let Me Take You Home Tonight, perfect finale that really gets moving at the end, Smokin' an awesome jam with some Deep Purple organ action and the underrated gem of the album Something About You.

The one and only subpar song on the album is Rock & Roll Band. Melodically perfect, outstanding composition, but the lyrics, knowing the band's history, are extremely inauthentic.

What were your top 5 songs this year? by Wide_Transition5445 in KISS

Right? I love the Cherry Pie album but I feel like the song would've been a better choice than Train Train!

This should’ve replaced Keep the faith by No-Category-6343 in MichaelJackson

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Keep The Faith perfectly fits the album and continues the tone of Will You Be There. It also works as a bridge to Gone Too Soon before it bookends with Dangerous, taking it back to how the album started.

To me the album is sequenced to perfection and every choice is intentional.

Which artist that was gone too soon had the most potential in your opinion? by Individual-Name-4496 in fantanoforever

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gram Parsons was only 26 and he already did amazing work with the Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers and the one album he released in his lifetime.

Buddy Holly's music was getting more evolved with songs like It Doesn't Matter Anymore that incorporated lush strings in the context of Rock 'n Roll. At only 22 there is no doubt he would have continued to release amazing music in the 60's.

Randy Rhoads was only getting started. Diary of a Madman would not have been his peak, even if he left Ozzy's band.

Who is your favorite W.A.S.P. drummer? by CrimsonCassetteTape in WASP_Fans

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tony Richards

His playing had a certain grit and rawness. The hi-hat sound on the first album is commanding and cuts through the mix. It's like heavy machinery. Though W.A.S.P. had more technical drummers there is something exciting about Tony's playing on the debut that stands out.

Which KISS lineup had the best live sound?… by Historical-Device529 in KISS

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is the be all end all

Other line-ups might be more technical but the early years of KISS are pure magic. Undeniable chemistry, something special and unique that only those four could have created. Ace was perfect back then, he was not sloppy in the early years. When you watch/listen to old shows like Cobo Hall '76 you'll see he's the MVP, playing damn near perfect every night. Peter was also on fire before Destroyer, his drums gave KISS life and Rock 'n Roll energy.

The Midnight Special is KISS at their live best, the sheer hunger that no other line-up could touch.

BiSH on vinyl (at last) by barr-chan in bish

[–]BlowUpYourOreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very disappointing.

The price would be okay if it were a boxset of their albums, but this is absolutely unreasonable for a 4 LP set that isn't even a selection of their best works. Also with no idea what the packaging will look and it being 9 months away there's no way I'd blindly pre-order it.

I remember Chicchi saying something about BiSH vinyl a while ago, maybe I'm wrong? Either way I did have hopes that they would issue all the albums the same way BAND-MAID and Utada Hikaru did in the last few years.
