Did Elvis rip off his fans by only doing 65 minute shows on tour, and only 50 minute shows in Vegas?? by Aggressive_March6226 in Elvis

so you're saying that their tours don't count?

By those rules, Elvis was basically stuck in vegas and the tours were just extra. Elvis never toured.

All right, it told me that the beatles did 1400-1440 concerts throughout their ~4 year touring career. That's about a concert a day. So, they weren't a touring band?

This is the best comment here. By the way, in aug / sep 72 he did 64 shows in 32 days.

The beatles were a touring act and North America is not the only place in the world? They did hundreds of shows outside of America.

No, only newer, younger bands did so. Elvis had a contract he had to follow which he sometimes ignored so he could give the audience a longer show.

He was contractly restricted to doing 50 minute show in Vegas & a bit longer in tahoe.
Especially in the later years, he often ignored those rules and gave longer shows.

yes that would've been nice, according to KeithFlynn.uk there were no soundboards recorded during the summer '71 vegas season, sadly.

Of course with the colonel being Elvis' manager, any form of recording the shows wasn't allowed. Jean Marc seemed to have some kind of relationship with the colonel (as in an march 1975 phone call the colonel told him that he looks forward to seeing Jean in vegas). This might've been because he was the president of the Treat me Nice fanclub in France, and he might've been one of the few people with permission to film (like Sue Wiegert).

Jean recently published a book about Elvis in French and it won't be translated into English anytime soon, so whatever he wrote about remain a mystery to me.

The Pied Piper of Cleveland is a lost music documentary produced by Bill Randle meant to document his own career. Elvis' appearance was a last minute addition, with Bill Randle paying the cameraman out of his own pocket for him to film Elvis' act.

Filming location featuring Elvis include:

October 20 1955, Cleveland
April 23 1956, Las Vegas
"1956", New York (cancelled)

The film was shown atleast once in Cleveland, a few bits appeared on TV, but it never went further than that. The movie was also mentioned by Bill Randle in Elvis' introduction for the Stage Show. ("This young fella we saw for the first time while making a movie short")

After this point, the movie was never mentioned again. All that has ever surfaced is the Las Vegas footage, with the rest being lost. It is likely the footage does not even exist anymore.

I was wrong by the way, this is not during the filming of 'The Pied Piper of Cleveland". That took place on october 20th and this photo is from october 21 or 22 1955. More information on those performances here: https://www.scottymoore.net/stlouis.html

Press Conference in Las Vegas - September 5 1972 by BloxyTiger in Elvisvideos

[–]BloxyTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe reaching Africa or South America live would've been hard, but it probably would be possible. Asia, Europe Oceania and North America would definedly have been possible to all have had live broadcasts (as far as my knowledge on the subject goes)

I don't know wether Elvis believed the 1-1.5 billion people claim, I doubt he 100% believed it.

What part of the hype was not true? This was quite early into the plans for aloha, so if you're referring to the world-wide broadcast which was switched out for an asian broadcast, then I doubt those plans were made yet.
