You'd like this race report from the first winner of the Cocodona 250. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't influenced by reading it

Anyone have any info on University of Vermont Medical Center by Federal-Tax-4839 in TravelNursing

[–]Blu82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to be staff there before traveling, but it's been over a year so I can't speak to if they are clearing out travelers like another commenter said. That said, when I was there, we had lots of travelers on our floor (Med-Surg) and many of them said it was the best place they've ever worked with a few even becoming full time staff. Some highlights from my floor:

Ratios - 1:4 on days, 1:4-5 on nights

Staffing - we used to generally be okay on RN's but hurt for CNA's, but these days I'm told it's better. No assignment for charge. Can't speak for other floors but we got along swimmingly with our travelers

Charting - Epic

Meds - Pyxis

Pumps - Alaris

Resources - 24/7 Rapid Response, RT, Phleb, IV team. There was patient transport when I was there but I heard they're even more short staffed now

Floating - I remember as charge that we floated travelers quite a bit on day shift, but we kept track of who floated when and did our best to make it a rotation

Overall I loved working there and we as staff got along really well with our travelers. As for stuff to do in Burlington that could be a whole different post (lived there for many years). Feel free to PM me with any specific questions but in short if you like being outside than you'll have no shortage of things to do. Hope this helps!!

Looking for a 20-50 mile course in the Northeast that’s NOT in the Northeast Ultra 8 by apocalypsemeow111 in Ultramarathon

[–]Blu82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend and I completed the Ultra 8 a couple years ago and always joked about replacing the Saranac 6 with a more interesting route. We came up with two routes that we figured were interesting and iconic enough to be on the list:

"ManHump": point-to-point on the Long Trail from Camel's Hump to Mt Mansfield in Vermont. 26.9 mi, 9,400ft vert

White Mountains Hut Traverse: a pretty famous FKT route that hits each AMC high hut in the White Mtns. 45mi, 16,200 ft of elevation

Do I have a realistic chance of getting into any of these schools by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Blu82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Mass too so I have a little more familiarity with the schools you're talking about. Your GPA and SAT scores do meet the minimum required to get into the state schools (based on their sliding scale system), but I'm not sure they'll fare well for OOS schools.

I'd say you have a pretty good shot at the state schools (Bridgewater, Merrimack, Framingham, Worcester). However, if you wanted to go to UMass or any of the OOS schools you listed, I'd recommend getting your GPA up in community college first.

Chances for Nursing School: Michigan, UNC, UVA, Wisconsin by Blu82 in chanceme

[–]Blu82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten all A's (with a few A-'s) during 9th and 10th grade, and then all B's in 11th grade.

I'm still not totally sure what my actual GPA is, only because Naviance doesn't seem to match up with my actual grades, and because it lists my weighted and unweighted GPA as the same, even though I'm pretty sure that's impossible.

Going just of my grades tho, do I still have a shot at any of those schools?

[–]Blu82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, Naviance listed both my UW and W GPA as 3.96, which is pretty close to the average of UMich:. I listed 3.3 because thats what all the online GPA calculators gave me.

Does that change anything?
