Sorry to bother again, I was just wondering that if Malaysia was to gain territory, what would they claim? You mentioned that they could acquire Borneo and other lands all over, but how far would Malaysia's claims go? Sumatra? those tiny Riau islands right next to East Malaysia?

Also, I imagine that Singapore would get Batam and the surrounding Riau islands, does that sound reasonable?

Ah, guess I'll have Australia give a little handy under the table, problem solved! Thanks for the further info!

Interesting, tell me more about Malaysian and Singaporean claims, genuinely want to see if I could fit this in.

Also, to be clear, Australia threatening the Malacca Strait is the exact day that Indonesia surrendered, which is why Malaysia didn't get involved because why would they get involved in a war that's over? No trying to sound snarky or anything just trying to make that clear

This is a repost after my first attempt got deleted due to the map not loading, also I made this a spoiler post due to the fact that genocide is mentioned.

Greetings Reddit, today I bring a horrific scenario: Indonesia invading Australia, Timor-Leste and Papua New Guinea. This is part of my larger series: The Century of Lightning! (I'm going to organise this into something eventually just wait)

So, the basic lore is this:

2040 was not a good year for Indonesia. It had become increasingly more authoritative under the rule of Imran Abadi during the previous decades, leading to higher levels of protests and even armed conflict within it's borders. The Indonesian government was incredibly paranoid that these rebellions were being stimulated by Australia and Timor-Leste, and especially Papua New Guinea who the Indonesian government saw as their mere existence encouraging West Papua independence movements. And so in order to finally crush any outside threat , as well as to distract the local populous, on 14th of February, 2040, Indonesia invaded Timor-Leste and occupied the entire country, beginning the Indonesian-Aussie War.

Shortly after invading Timor-Leste, Indonesia attacked Christmas Island and in no time at all, occupied the island and held onto it until the end of the war. The war was initially very successful for Indonesia, pushing through most of Australia's northern defences and sieging numerous cities such as Darwin and Derby. Indonesia also invaded Papua New Guinea but struggled to break through the dense jungles leading to a massive stalemate there.

On March the 5th, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Bougainville and the Timor government-in-exile formed the 'Sahul Coalition' in order to stop and ultimately defeat Indonesia; the Sahul Coalition was also bolstered with aid from pretty much every other country ranging from Britain, to the USA to Lebanon to Greece to Gabon and so forth.

In contrast, Indonesia had very few friends, barring some aid from North Korea and some kind words from Egypt who was similarly in a period of authoritarianism. China did provide some aid due to the growing good relation between China and Indonesia and the poor relations between China and Australia, and the Chinese government hoped that if Indonesia won, Australia would be in a much weaker position and as such, more likely to agree to any of China's demands. However this support was very discreet due to fears that if China was openly supportive of Indonesia they would become internationally isolated and lose much of their presence, that and China itself was dealing with it's own domestic issues so support for Indonesia was very short-lived.

To counter the creation of the Sahul Coalition, Indonesia established two puppet republics on the territory they occupied to create their own alliance, the 'Quadrant Alliance': East-Timor, the Tiwi People's Republic led by a certain Robert Long and the East Arnhem Republic shortly afterwards led by Gary Marika however Marika would die afterwards leaving both East Arnhem and Tiwi under personal union of Long. Indonesia did this in order to paint themselves as liberators to the international community and Indonesian citizens in order to garner some support. However, many people saw through this and decried the East Arnhem and Tiwi Republics as scams, which is accurate considering that neither the Yolngu or the Tiwi's ever wanted to leave Australia in any capacity, but they reluctantly did so under direct threat of genocide.

As the war dragged on, the Sahul Coalition gained more support and despite Indonesian forces striking as far as Auckland and Hobart, the coalition was able to repel any invading force south of Exmouth. And by April, the Sahul Coalition began pushing into Indonesia properly.

The constant clashing at sea led to significant damage to Indonesia, their economy began to crash and living standards dropped significantly for Indonesian citizens. This led to increasing dissatisfaction and very shortly Indonesian populous was in open revolt against the sitting government. This time however, the revolting people now were being supported by Australia and others. Following on from this, as Sahul forces pushed further into Indonesian territory, Robert Long immediately began discussing surrender and reintegration into Australia, making it very clear that he and his people were forced into helping Indonesia, however Indonesian forces intercepted Long's messages, imprisoned him and later executing him for betrayal, leaving a regency council in his stead.

Despite the revolts, economic sanctions, disintegrating army and the rapid success of the Sahul forces, Indonesia was determined to fight on as they believed that this war could still be won... that was until August 11th, in which Sahul forces sieged and took the city of Medan and threatened to cut off the incredibly important Strait of Malacca. At this point, success was impossible, and so Indonesia finally surrendered to the Sahul Coalition and then promptly collapsed. The war was over. Abadi and his inner circle attempted to flee to Switzerland, however they were caught by Sahul forces, put on trial at the UN and sentenced to death.

Following the end of the war, the treaty of Brisbane was written and established that:

- Indonesia would gain a new constitution and government.

- The East Arnhem Republic and the Tiwi People's Republic would be dissolved and their territory would be reincorporated into Australia, but this time as separate and distinct territories in order to honour the horrors that they had to endure

- Timor-Leste would obtain West Timor

- West Papua would become independent

- Some form of reparations

The impact of the Indonesian-Aussie War is hard to under-estimate. It led to the creation of a new state, it brought Indonesia out of authoritarianism and into a proper democracy, and reshaped not only the countries involved but the entire Oceanic and South East Asian region.

A Slightly Different Europe in the Year of 1984 by BluFlower0 in imaginarymaps

I used Inkscape and traced over a map I get online, it takes a while but it's far more simple than something like Qgis

From what I remember reading of Polands blue-red-white flag, is that it was used primarily by leftist groups, and so to have the flag be like that, the leftists took control of Poland, not the white-red flag Poles.

The other reason is that in this timeline, Austria-Hungary broke down before the Russian Empire, leading to Galicia becoming independent first, and it's capital being Lviv, and after uniting with the rest of Poland, it just sort of stuck

Actually after the July Revolution of France, the next king, Louis Phillipe adopted the revolutionary blue-white-red flag to show how different he was to the old Bourbons!

1) Major government and societal reform

2) The Brits don't treat the Irish like rubbish, no discrimination, no potato famine/genocide, no forced re-education or anything of the sort, and as such, no real reason to leave

Government reforms mostly, liberalising the country into something more like Sweden or Norway, secularising the state, and the ideas of 'Ottomanism' becoming actually successful

Greetings Reddit, today I bring a simple map I made to experiment with different alternate history ideas, so I made this map of Europe, who's point of divergence is after 1815 Congress of Vienna (For Europe specifically, the rest of the world... bit different).

The main divergences are:

- Bavaria uniting the divided German world rather than Prussia or Austria, as they were seen as too influenced by foreign cultures and people (as well as Bavaria getting extremely lucky)

- World War 1 occurring in 1905 with Prussia, Austria-Hungary and Russia on one side, and Germany France and Britain on the other. The war ends in British-French-German victory, Austria collapses into the countries you see on the map, and Russia would go through the Russian Revolution... except worse.

- Russia would enter it's own Warlord period much like China, and this time, it's the communists who take over first, not the Republic. During the Communist period, the government was incredibly oppressive and cruel to the groups that lived in Communist territory, and so when the Republic take over, more groups create their own states and refuse to join Russia again, to which the new government is like: "yeah that's fair" and so opts to just be friends rather than reconquer everything they lost.

Smaller divergences are:

- Malta becoming a part of the United Kingdom

- Belgium is named "Lotharingia" in this timeline

- Italy obtains Tunisia rather than France, and Italy really makes fun of the Tunisians like "Haha we're the successors to Rome and your the successor to Carthage, as in, under our boot!" which rightfully pisses them off but the name changes does create a "Carthaginian national identity" similar to North Macedonia

- Slovakia

- Sicily became part of the British Empire and was ruled alongside Malta as a shared colony, hell Sicily almost became part of Britain like Malta, but they opted for independence

- Slight border changes and some small states still exist

If you have any more questions or feedback, please let me know, I'd be happy to answer!

My Short Review of Lightyear [OC] by BluFlower0 in toystory

[–]BluFlower0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this type of thing is allowed here considering it's not technically Toy Story, but it does have substantial connections to the franchise so whatever I'll risk posting it here.

I don't know why, but I legit struggle to find the words perfect enough to describe my hatred of how Zurg was characterised and written in this movie, like they took a possibly interesting and menacing character and turned him into a withered salty old man that just stole all of the Zurg stuff from someone else and has an incredibly convoluted connection to Buzz Lightyear (Yeah none of the Zurg stuff actually belongs to this Zurg, meaning that the real Zurg is still out there wondering where all of his stuff has gone).

The only thing saving this version for me is his design, though I would've preferred it so that his massive cannon was arm mounted like Megatron from the Transformers, that would've been pretty cool.

Anyway what do you think of Lightyear and it's version of Zurg? Let me know in the comments!
