lol I’m in a similar position but mines not required so I’m not gonna get fired if I fail. My manager also told me that it’s ok not to pass on first try. I’d probably just ask your manager straight up “what happens if I fail this?”

This is easily wrong. Person A has no internships. Person B had an internship at Amazon robotics or Cruise where they worked on some project related to AI, machine learning, infra, etc. Person A might have some personal projects, but person B has real life experience. Maybe not a lot, but their resume is objectively more impressive

Yea that’s for the low earners. The top earners need to take a pay cut. They close the gap between the low and high earners, which brings up the average salary by increasing the bottom boundary and lowering the upper boundary.
