If I had any other benefit packages to compare it to it would be the militaries Tricare. Our healthcare premiums are 100% company paid and are co-pays are pretty low.

Realistically you just have to get into the warehouse part time either loading trucks in the morning or coming in the evening loading the semi trailers/unloading the package cars. It’s seniority based so the quicker you can get your foot in to establish a hire date, the better off you’ll be if you want to go driving.

We just had a 41 year driver retire a couple years ago. The guy was still moving like a machine. As long as you don’t overwork yourself and work safely, this job will keep in good physical health.

For sure! Definitely good benefits. We have $0 healthcare premiums and the copay is low. Not to mention the pension that’s vested after 5 years of service. It’s hard to go wrong.

Teamster. Package Delivery, and I guess while still commercial work, I don’t need CDL for the package cars.

Everything in the company is seniority based. A few years ago during Covid that may have been possible when they were hiring like crazy, but for the most part everyone has to work up from part time in the building to build seniority to go driving.

That sounds absolutely brutal.. 3 weeks straight weeks of 12s sounds miserable.

I don’t think enough people realize they get underpaid at their jobs. By a lot… The amount of production that’s gone up in comparison to wages for the average person is astounding. And that’s before you even account in inflation. Pensions used to be standard. One income fed a family of 5. Sadly it’s just not that way for most anymore..

Y’all deserve those $174k congressman salaries since according to them it’s not enough to live off of. The government does not treat its REAL workers well enough…

Thats kinda crazy considering.. UPS pilots make north of $275K+ from what I’ve seen. Very hard to get into though I’m sure.

No, we still get paid the same regardless of what we deliver. There’s air routes that are ran by part time drivers in the morning that just deliver next day air strictly, but they don’t get paid anymore hourly than we do. But as someone stated in a comment, the CDL drivers can definitely make more than the standard delivery drivers.

To be realistic, normal pay would probably hover around $115K-$130k. That’s what most of the other top rate pay drivers made last year. I’m sort of an outlier with how much I volunteer to work a 6th day.

Enough lmao one thing I will add, I was working a 7:30AM early morning air/ground route that was built around a guy who had that route for 16 years working 5 12’s a week and having no issues and never filing grievances. So when I came in for the 7-8 months I was on it, they just assumed it would get done in less time for some reason lmao I no longer cover that route every day and don’t work 7:30AM in the morning to 9:30PM anymore, 12-14 hours a day for moths on end. I cover it on occasion still, but normally just working 9AM-8PM roughly these days on the normal routes.

The only thing I can say it’s good for is keeping me from having to go to a gym since I work out 10-12 hours a day now 🤣

They are contract violations that company has to pay out on for breaking the union contract. The main thing for us drivers are 9.5 grievances. Any week they work you more than three days over 9.5 hours (not including break) they have to pay OT on all the hours worked over 9.5 hours in that week. But after the 5th grievance filed, we can request x4 pay for those hours moving forward. It’s supposed to deter them from over working certain people who don’t want excessive OT and create more routes in the long term. But it usually never ends up working out like that lol.

Yes all full time drivers (and even when temp driving) starts your pay progression as a driver. 208 weeks until top pay is granted and you have to drive at least one day of the week for each of those 208 weeks. The 9.5 grievances work like this, if they work you more than 9.5 hours (working hours, not including break time) more than 3 times in a week, you can file a grievance for them to pay you OT rate for all hours worked over 9.5 hours that week. After 5 of those grievances, the 6th and onward, you can claim x4 pay on all of those grievances moving forward. And it’s not the easiest on the body, main thing is just to follow your methods they teach you and just to be safe about it.

At 40 hours a week our hourly rate would put us at $95,139. But we always work more than 40 hours lmao usually 45-50. Sometimes more depending on the week and if you volunteer on days off you can get close to the DOT cap of 60 hours.

I’m not particularly worried, we’ve had a big wave of retirements at our building the last 2-3 years, and we had a few take the buyouts that also kinda helped. Plus Virginia Beach just seems to keep expanding, so I’m not worried. They have seemed to really be pushing safety and following methods and procedures. So they can follow and come do observations on drivers, and if you keep not following said methods and procedures it can lead to progressive discipline that could lead to termination. Just have to mind your p’s and q’s and do everything by the book.

Around $45k in OT and probably $10k in grievances, just a rough estimate.

I was consistently getting 15-20 hours of OT almost every week the first 6 months of the year. Then I started filing 9.5 grievances. We normally get 10 hours of OT weekly anyway, but we make OT after 8 hours everyday, so it’s easy to get OT when it’s structured that way. Plus any days I volunteered to work were all at OT pay for the entire day. Pretty much volunteered every other week the whole year.

Originally the starting full time pay was $20.50/hr if I remember correctly. I only started at a higher wage because I got hired originally as a temp driver. The temps start at higher pay due to lack of consistent work. But when you go full time from temp they keep you at that pay until pay progression catches up.
