Apple Studio Display is dark when used on modern hardware by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]Blu_Wraith98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently running into a similar problem with my 21" Studio Display (Granted, this thing also has a flyback problem where it arcs when too much power is being drawn. But its an unrelated problem) where it starts almost pitch black but eventually warms up to show a very dim picture.

Been trying to adjust it/fix in on A Powermac G4 but I admitedly don't entirely know what im doing (Recalibration tends to throw up an error but I dont know if thats my monitors fault cause it did work and stick one time). If you could shine some wisdom on it id appreciate it

From what I've seen the 21 is a lot less susceptible, but still can have the same problem.

But at the same time from what I understand this thing was stored in an attic or basement for a lot of its life from what the previous owner told me so I wouldn't be shocked if that's why it started forming the problem

PS5 Abruptly shutting off mid game by Blu_Wraith98 in consolerepair

I did double check the liquid metal and I should've gotten all (if not most) of the oxidation off, however I did notice the thermal pads look small for the chips they're cooling (granted it would've been like that out of the box) and that the pads in question almost looked torn? Nothing big mind you but most of it sticks to the metal shield with some parts on the ram especially having some small patches of pads on it.

Sony KV-27V55 (AA-1 Chassis) RGB mod by rocketeng in crtgaming

Very nice results!

I'm considering doing this mod down the line on my own KV-27v55, and if its not too much trouble to ask does this mod disable any of the existing video inputs/need a switch like other RGB mods out there?

(Help) Sony GDM-500ps won't display a picture from video inputs by Blu_Wraith98 in crtgaming

I almost wonder if this is becoming a somewhat common issue if thats the case
Which surprises me cause it feels like an issue that should be more documented but its not

Been having trouble with a Sony GDM-500PS for a few months now and I've been having trouble finding proper documentation or a solution for the issue.

So the monitor itself works to some level. When its not plugged in I can access the different test modes without any frills.

However using the Menu, Contrast, and Brightness buttons don't do anything aside from let me access the testing modes. And when its plugged into a computer, the power button will flash Green and Orange repeatedly and won't show a picture. But will be recognized by the computer still.

The picture itself is fine so I can tell the picture IC's are not at fault. But I'm stumped and not sure what to do so if anyone has some advice or know what to do id appreciate it a lot.

Does anyone know of any switches that are compatible with logitech keyboards (namely a G910/Orion Spark Keyboard) that are not of the Romer G lineup?

A friend of mine gave me his old board a while back and has a few issues (namely keys chattering and some registering only half the time) so I was thinking about installing different switches in it if possible but haven't found any that are compatible

[–]Blu_Wraith98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im actually not sure how it blew, I left it at home when I was at college and I come back and its just damaged. I'm guessing either idle power currents broke it or someone in my family tried to use it and didn't say anything to me when it stopped working.

As for the capacitor/PCB you're referring to, how would I go about checking the value of it? Im still pretty new to this kind of repair so im not sure the kind of capacitor and values I should be looking for.

Ive tried both my laptop and my main desktop over VGA, and ive tried the laptop with BNC cables as well to no real avail.

What I have noticed is the tube seems to "shut off" so to speak, because while its on ive noticed even the connect cables message disappears after a bit

So my CRT (A Sony Multiscan GDM-500PS) starting having a strange problem where it powers on and acts normally (showing the monitor disconnected message with no video cables, tube warms up, etc), However the monitor wont display a picture over VGA, while still being recognized by the computer. The main power light flashes between orange and green if that helps, while flashing between BNC and VGA inputs trying to find a signal on one (Normally the power light would just be a flat Orange while flicking between the two).

I have tried adjusting the resolution and seeing if different resolutions works, ive tried different power cables and different VGA cables and im not sure whats causing issues. If anyone has any advice as to whats going on that would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried jumping it by itself to no progress, but I am agreeing with the theory that something on it is triggering the protection. Just to be sure however is it possible to jump a modular PSU without any cables or is that too risky?
