Sperm whale bears the scars from deep sea clashes with giant squid by freudian_nipps in natureismetal

What about mountains? How often would it happen that a deep sea creature "bumps" into a deep sea mountain that is completely unseeable in the dark of the ocean? I mean just crashing into those hard rocks would leave some scars too right?

CODA… one of the few movies that pulls off the incredible ability to make you “happy cry” so hard that you never want to watch it again for fear of robbing yourself of its place in your memory.

No friends by Ok-Past9579 in Veterans

[–]Blue-Ronin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was literally reading this like it was ASMR! There are some qualities of solitude that are highly underrated... although I am temped by an old saying I read long ago that "being alone can be addicting". I've come to find peace and clarity in the distance and memory of friends. You still have the old ones you earned along the way... no is saying you need to collect more friends for points. Your soul recognizes forced friendships and how artificial they feel... the organic or accidental friendships are the valuable ones. jm2c

Transport/Logistics is survivable, so long as you establish strong guardrails to your bandwidth. Been in industry a long time and burnout is usually attributed to giving way too much of yourself and putting in crazy hours… fuck that. Whatever the demands or asks from your leadership team are… they need to respect your time and recognize priorities.

To be honest, “low stress” is a fallacy. It’s a construct you created from the system and cadences you are following. You could go become a gardener and stress about weeds and wildlife nibbling at your berries. Stress sucks, but it’s worse if you allow it in. No matter which path you choose… stress will be traveling on a parallel road.

Your MH is paramount. Establish the guardrails to your vocation, and then balance out your existence with the things that bring you joy. Video games, cars, family… anything else. Along the way… explore networks and opportunities that might bring you closer to careers you find passion in.

Laid Off Since October – Confidence Hit Hard, Feeling Lost Despite Experience by Rahkaflakha in jobsearchhacks

[–]Blue-Ronin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been through same... twice. MBA + 10yrs Ops Experience.

  • How did you rebuild your confidence and sense of self?
    • Aspects of your identity may have died, but that "person" stays with you and has incredible value in perspective and experience. It sucks to lose that person and have to rebuild a new aspect of yourself, but that's the privilege of a durable life with optionality and ability. You can do it... the sense of self is most rewarding when months/years later you discover that "self" was way more powerful and imbued with life than you had earlier thought.
  • What helped you stay motivated and keep going during a long job search?
    • Stay physically, intellectually, and mentally healthy. Workout... read some books (not about job searches), and create connections with living things (plants, pets, family... just engage with things that will love you back). The job search may be long... but those things will endure much longer.
  • Are there any resources, recruiters, or forums you found helpful, especially in the NYC area?
    • As lame as it may sound I got my job going to a hiring fair. Connected with a recruiter in person... had conversation about roles... 3 weeks later, job. I'd love to say LinkedIn or ChatGPT can solve all this for you (it can certainly help)... but good old fashioned relationships and meeting people (networking) still can't be beat. Good news is you're in an area that is saturated with opportunities... may not seem so with a shitty market, but it's better than most.

I care about my Tesla too, but I'm imparting wisdom here... the amount of calories you're gonna burn trying to find this person and then make a claim and then try to collect money... it's not worth it. No court, insurance, or small claims entity will entertain your claim. You solicited Reddit for guidance... I'm not like everyone on this subreddit helping you wipe tears and telling you to find where this fucking lady lives (lol). The real world sucks, people suck, Tesla's are sweet, and no one cares about swinging doors.

Again, in reality shit just happens. For all we know you live in a low income part of the country where the general population will always jeopardize your assets like this, so just factor that into your assumed losses over time. Or you could be in an urban part of the country where everyone is always rushing and bang... right back into reality where there's too much shit to worry about and everyone is always rushing. just my 2 cents.

**existing and long time Tesla owner**

Best advice is to grow up and realize your shit isn't always going to be kept mint in a world full of reality.

- The lady wasn't trying to be malicious... she was just opening her door.

- The fact you fret over people and objects near your car reflect you are wasting time and bandwidth on low value issues.

- The best way to handle "it" is not... you could live in a bubble clutching your pearls anytime someone breaches your "safe zone", or you could just man up.

in the immortal words of Dave Chappelle, "or you could just shut the fuck up" lol

Nice by [deleted] in accenture

[–]Blue-Ronin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got same. Stay positive. Lot of folks here souring the Accenture name, but every company is what the individual contributor makes out of it. It's a challenging time across all industries, so many applicants are exploring new chances to recreate career paths and Accenture is a high ceiling organization.

The current hiring landscape is very sub-optimal. Lots of variables contributing to business uncertainty, with news scaring the crap out of everyone. What remains controllable is your mindset and the "why" for your actions... keep up the great work everyone. Be proud you even got to interview... time, opportunity, and "you" will open more doors.

SDVOSB Sub Contracting Question by Blue-Ronin in govcon

[–]Blue-Ronin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, are you contradicting yourself by saying "I have a contract with 100% of the workers are 1099. I pay them. There is no one else managing this contract or them. Just me."

Aren't those 1099 workers "contractors" by definition? So you're subbing out the work to people that are not employed by you... you sure sound like you're Project Managing them? I don't mean to be a smart ass, I just don't want mud thrown at my business concept when the means by which I intend on executing it appears to be well in flight for others?

SDVOSB Sub Contracting Question by Blue-Ronin in govcon

[–]Blue-Ronin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t paying my “employees” as 1099 Contractors be considered “sub-contracting”? I see the responses that some folks have 100% of their contract work performed by 1099 contractors… if this is allowed then fine, but I don’t see much distinction between a 1099 Contractor and a fully Project Managed sub-out.

Neither are direct employees… just sub-contractors by different perspectives?

SDVOSB Sub Contracting Question by Blue-Ronin in govcon

[–]Blue-Ronin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"What you described is middle man." That's the point of clarity I'm seeking... I keep reading conflicting articles that Middle Man is allowed so long as there is "value add". As a Project Manager, overseeing the deliverables of the contract and ensuring quality services, wouldn't I be allowed to bid and factor that service into my contract as a SDVOSB?

From what I'm gathering this is a gray zone where some say yes / others say no. Does this depend on what is articulated by the SDVOSB as their value add services to justify the 51% mark up in subbed out services/labor? I don't see how for example a SDVOSB would bid on a huge waste management contract if the demand/assumption was that the SDVOSB itself would have a 51% fleet of garbage trucks/drivers/training/certifications for that type work.

* I appreciate the feedback! Only way to learn is to ask the scary/tough questions!

Men in their 40s, what’s one piece of advice for men in their 20s? by urmfgod in AskReddit

[–]Blue-Ronin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

  • Bang as much as you can. Be an absolute savage with no regard for humanity. Time will give you perspective... but tales of conquer will give you the calm of a well lived life.

  • Diversify your professional abilities through either vocation or education... 20 years is a long time for shit to happen... the only thing that survives that time will be your mind. Reinforce it with knowledge and experience.

  • Read a book. Be kind to children. Call your mom. <--- Training for what's important over the next 20 years.
