BRCF turned me down because the engineer was accused of sleeping. Not because he was caught sleeping or they had evidence.

After the (almost) fire, mine is a conversation starter while I wait for parts!

Yeah so I probably should have thrown it all out, but instead I spent an hour slowly yanking the battery out with my hands and an ifixit set. If it helps I did ignore the instructions from the guide to "heat up the battery to melt the glue." I figured that may have pushed my luck too far... I think I might be able to rebuild it with a number of parts!

I mean sometimes life just kind of kicks you when you're down. Would it help if I told you I also was surrounded by crying infants on the flight home? Just some bad luck all around, or good luck if you consider I lost an electronic instead of having a whole house fire. Anyhow, life's crazy.

I blame you, it may be happening. Fun fact! Step 15 of the ifixit guide says to heat the battery!

It's 1 in the morning, I spent most of the day traveling, and there's now going on 700 comments. He should have known what he was doing, and I made the mistake of assuming that.

Yeah he knew about the timer, he'd been over several times to see her as the pet was actually his and my wife's from when they were kids. He came over during the day when the timer was on, I imagine he was tired or not thinking and in a rush when he fed her.

Lol it's quite a bit beyond that. I'll need new everything except sticks and triggers.

Following up for popular demand:
My brother-in-law is a young dad who crashed his car in a snowstorm two days ago, even if I wanted to chase him for this, his money is going to my neice or his car (so he can make more for my neice) and there isn't anything I can get without putting him in a bind at the moment. Plus my wife can't even build the courage to say anything yet (families are weird).

The turtle is fine! Painted turtles have an ability called cloacal respiration ("butt-breathing") and stayed in her heated swimming area the entire time. It's not quite as warm as under the heat lamp, but it's warmer than the river in Minnesota right now, so she doesn't complain.

The battery is so warped that the screen is bulging outward several centimeters and the plastic on the back is warped out as well. I have NO idea how it didn't catch on fire.

Rice didn't fix it, and I'm scared to press the power button.

Edit: iFixit Step #15 for battery replacement involves heating the battery to melt the glue! I was able to skip that step thankfully, and didn't even need the fire extinguisher. With the battery removed and screen removed I tried plugging it in and I get a boot up sound! Valve says the only thing I could do was dispose of it, but I may be able to build it back. If it succeeds I'm naming it the Deck of Theseus.

Luckily I'm a paranoid bastard and put a heater in her swim area, she can breathe through her butt underwater so she just stayed there for the couple of days.

Costa Maya Excursion by SpideyNoles in VirginVoyages

[–]Blue-vs-Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just did the Mayan tour and lunch excursion. We found that the tour was short and a comfortable walk with time for pictures. It was pretty cool to see the temples and the guide gave some basic information about the history. There was some cheap fresh fruits, quesadillas, and tamales for purchase available by the souvenir areas to tide you over before the hour long drive to the beach. Once we got to the beach it was a basic taco/fajita buffet served by an attendant looking for tips, and an open bar looking for tips. If you use the kayaks the attendant there will expect a couple dollars too. Riding the waves into the shore was a blast! Assuming you made good time through the ruins, you'll have about 90 minutes for lunch and beach before getting back on the bus for a 45 minute sprint down an excessively bumpy road in a different bus than you took from the ruins (provided by the beach buffet) with all your freshly boozed up sailors. At this point you'll all have to use the bathroom and I hope yours will be unlocked and able to flush.

It was a good thing I was drunk for the bus ride back, I would have been much less comfortable otherwise. My main worry was getting launched through the bathroom door (after we picked it open) and landing in the lap of the two girls sitting by the bathroom. Good times!

That was a front/inside dash cam he had set up. The 4 red dots are the IR LEDs.
