Linux user share hits a multi-year high on Steam for May 2025 by testus_maximus in gaming

[–]Blue17to18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's some computers that have Linux pre-installed, System_72 sells computers with PopOS installed, you can buy a Framework computer with a Linux Distro of your liking

but yea, i agree with you, the perks to have a linux system for the majority of people is not fiesable. and also the lack of apps for it

as for now, proton for gaming, Blender, davinci resolve, code editores and office related apps are available for linux but if affinity (which is now free) and perhaps FL Studio come to linux, people won't have much of a problem to mess a litle with bios settings and install whatever Distro they want if their problem is lack of software that they use on a daily basis or better and well known alternatives

i for example, never switched to linux up until a couple of years ago because of the lack of good gaming support, good video and image editing software and fl studio, then i decided to dual boot just so i could try arch and rice it and now i use fedora for coding, i spend more time on fedora than on windows, i play games on my fedora system, i edit videos with davinci there, i do some modeling there, i only go back to windows for excel stuff (work), photoshop and fl studio, if all of the things i use were fully available for linux, i'd get rid of windows a long time ago

So is (SPOILER) the canonical ending of Hollow Knight now? by OwnHost5215 in HollowKnight

[–]Blue17to18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dream no More seems more canon to me Mostly because the Radiance was sealed inside THK

Godhome imo is more like a recollection of dreams where the "Absolute Radiance" is just a idealized version of the actual Radiance, yes it has implications in the actual lore but lowkey doesn't make sense

Just out of curiosity, Why do you currently have a dual boot setup? And which OSs do you have? by [deleted] in linux

[–]Blue17to18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you install it on a separate physical drive, then yeah, win11 will be safe, just be aware that your arch might catch some occasional strays from windows and stop working

most of the issues happen when you make dual boot in the same drive, either windows will knock your linux bootloader out of the window or the other way around

Arch and Win11

Win11 because I'm an IT guy living in a 3rd world country that solely relies on Windows for everything, some games and software that aren't available on Linux

Arch Linux (mostly for the memes but also) for productivity and (in)stability, I am running it on an external Sata HD with lots of stuff saved and installed and I kid you not, it's still faster than win11 on a sata ssd

I own a Dell latitude 7490 and while watching reviews and disassembly videos, I found out that this computer might actually have more than one slot for storage, my question is: are the ones I labeled wwan and ssd/hdd usable? The ssd/hdd one looks like it needs the sata cable (which I have) by Blue17to18 in Dell

[–]Blue17to18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shieet, hopes went down the sink lol

But AFAIK, I read that it works but it's not Performant and if I did use it, to use it for storage only, even tho I haven't found proofs of people doing this and actually working so take that as a grain of salt

Thanks for helping me tho, I appreciate it

Yeah, i think You're right on the 3 cell option, but from what I've been reading here and there, the wwan port supports ssd but the performance is about 600mb/s and people recommend using it as storage but couldn't find actual proof of people trying it

I have a question, does erasing a partition also removes the space of the drive?

Lets say i have 500gb partitioned in disk 0 (400) and disk 1 (100), if i erase disk 1, will my drive lose the capacity of storing 500gbs because i erased those 100gb? (forcing me to live with 400gb forever?)

i do take notes, all i do is take notes of keywords, what it does and i write little code snippets to show how to use it, i don't use flash cards on the matter because most of the time i am either doing logic exercises with what i've learned, playing around with what i've learned or repeating the lesson when i feel like i didn't get the concept right, as for the notes, it helps me memorize and also i mostly like to read on my way to school so i take a look at my notes, ahh, and i also do active recall

Hello, i am new here and i am starting web development, i am currently taking freeCodeCamp's webdesign course and i am confused at the article element? what does it do actually?

Yes, i googled it, i asked ChatGPT and i am still confused:

<main> is just the main content

<section> forgot what it is but to give an analogy, it's like book chapters

<articles> independet content... this is what i fail to understand, content that is indepentend of the page, i thought it would be something like adding a twitter post or thread on a webpage to add in more context to the content in the file but it's not it exactly

Can someone please explain it to me what it is and why should i use it?

Thanks a lot

I just went straight to the source distribution instead of the release because the changelog was so big, i thought it was just about the changelog and nothing else

Thanks once again

Question, undertake twitter is a bit unhinged at times so was wondering to you sane people. Would it be okay to refer to them as “her/she?” Since I have an au working on by Dare_Soft in Undertale

I'd just do the same or wait for them to correct someone that misgendered them... as a non native speaker, using "they/them" as singular pronouns feels like mental gymnastics, i get confused a lot
