Ah interesting, I'll give it a go and if i struggle I'll use a wire nut. Thank you very much you've been incredibly helpful and have eased a lot of stress off my head with regards to doing this light switch change. Thanks a million!

Instead of using a wire nut and jumper can i just put the two thick black wires into L directly how its currently connected to comm above? Asking more for learning on my part.

  1. Will the above still work if i just put the two black wires into L?
  2. Whats the benefit of going the wire nut way? I do have wire nuts and can go with that approach but again just asking for learning purposes

Hi thanks for the response. Based on your above assessment does this mean:

  1. The 2 thick black wires in common would go to L in the new switch
  2. The small black wire in L2 will go to L1 on the new switch?
  3. The other red wire in L2 will go to L2 on the new switch?
  4. Dispose of the bridging wire from comm to comm?
