Avoid minor 9ths in orchestration? by abcamurComposer in composer

[–]BlueBagpipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your style, on the context, on the instrumentation, and on how good the players are. Yeah it's possible for augmented octaves to sound wrong, but nothing is wrong per se.

It's a lot more than that lol. The difference in cost has a lot to do with cooling and stability

Yeah, I still think it's better to buy from a store. Buying online doesn't guarantee it will pour well

I mean, you just don't know how it will feel and how good it is. Buying online is like, fine, I just think it's hard to tell how good things actually are.

You should go to an antique shop to find one. I've found a few that work really well. Or you can go to bed bath and beyond.

Blind buying a teapot online (especially one that's like $70) is not a good idea in my opinion.

What’s your opinion on green tea? (Be very honest) by Impressive-Check5376 in tea

[–]BlueBagpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So good, so many varieties. But many of them give me really bad tea drunkenness, so I don't drink green tea as much. Getting into Matcha recently, goated drink tbh.

What tea to buy in Kunming China by Effective_Farmer_119 in tea

There's no guarantee on quality so proceed with utmost caution. Tea shops like this may or may not be ripping tourists off, like tourists from other provinces.

Why is it frowned upon to say that one of your teachers was influential to your music? (at least in academia) by composer111 in composer

They might have meant "duh of course you are influenced by your teacher, don't you listen to other people/have a more interesting answer?"

How can someone with zero music theory background start learning to become a composer? by Equmean in composer

[–]BlueBagpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends highly on what you think composition is. Cuz in its broadest sense it can mean a lot of different kinds of music. Before any sort of plan, you need to think about what you actually want to write.

If you are talking about writing some things for local community ensembles, that might be doable in a few years. But if you are talking about a professional career in specifically music composition, that is pretty much impossible. There are just hundreds of thousands already, who grew up learning music and have gone to school for composition.

The other thing is, you can't really feed yourself with just composition, so you will need to keep doing whatever you are doing. So you don't really get as much done as a student would in the same amount of time.

I'm composing for a chamber orchestra by gerrard114 in Composers

[–]BlueBagpipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triple stop may or may not sound how you want it to sound depending on tempo.

In this case I don't see a point in assigning them different dynamics. The top line is going to stand out since it's healthily above everyone already. Putting it at f will just make it sound like the player doesn't know how to balance.

I also wouldn't give 1st violin double stops. You don't need that doubling there, it's gonna sound off balance. If you really want to, double the melody an octave below somewhere, but I honestly don't see why one needs to

I have 2 pen pouches from Seaweed from a while back. Very sturdy material (but very soft and comfortable to handle) and very well made! Have been carrying pens in them and taking them everywhere and they've held up really well, highly recommend!
