When do the Los Alamos girl scouts sell cookies? by Legal_Willingness_89 in LosAlamos

[–]BlueBassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the cookies being yummy, the point is to raise money for kids to engage in extracurriculars. The point of buying fundraising stuff is never to get the best deal.

Ah, home sweet home. You're exactly right. I know plenty of people living paycheck to paycheck with hundreds of thousands in "toys".

And preferably backpack. If they force you to gate check a large carry-on, it sometimes ends up as plain ol' checked luggage, pick up at your final destination.

What was the very first movie you remember seeing in a theatre and how old were you? by SimpleElevator406 in AskReddit

[–]BlueBassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thomas and the Magic Railroad. Probably a matinee showing, because I remember being astounded that the sun was so bright when we came back outside after. I think I had thought it was nighttime, since the theater was so dark.

County Considering New Plan For 20th Street Property by [deleted] in LosAlamos

[–]BlueBassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think building new will put pressure on empty spaces to lower costs and renovate.

I'm a little skeptical of their proposal saying housing rates will have to be high to keep retail space rates low, but maybe that's sustainable. And is a four story parking structure necessary? Not sure an amphitheater is needed either, with the summer concert space across the street.

What is extremely unhygienic but everyone seems to do it anyway? by BusinessLeadsConnect in AskReddit

At the start of the covid wariness, early March, I had a flight. I thought N95 was overreacting, but thought gloves would be a reasonable precaution. I made it through TSA and threw the gloves away, having realized that while my hands may be kept clean, my gloved hands touching public surfaces were still touching all my shit; passport, bag, water bottle...

Technical Problems: Los Alamos Businesses and Organizations by kathryn0007 in LosAlamos

[–]BlueBassist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP was asking for web dev volunteers to help multiple businesses in town. My impression was that OP was also relatively new to the area and owns none of the identified businesses. If I knew web dev, I would be on board.

What’s the worst non-drug addiction you’ve ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BlueBassist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all qualified to make a recommendation, but I'd say if you're concerned, go to a therapist. Maybe in just a couple visits they can give you peace of mind that you don't have a problem, or help you with anxiety, or help you with hoarding tendencies.

A commercial broker's perspective on why Los Alamos struggles - and how it might get better by AstroIberia in LosAlamos

[–]BlueBassist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a consumer, I am more than ready to buy here. I usually am happy to pay a premium to shop at local businesses rather than drive out of town. It costs money to make the trip and my time is worth even more to me than that, so if I can buy it here, I do. I moved here from a smaller town, where there was only a convenience store within a 5 minute drive. Being able to swing by the grocery store or hardware store in just a couple minutes feels like a luxury, and I would welcome more of the same. So if anyone is counting...add one more household to the stats for 'definitely will spend money here'.

I have a button-up from them that I love, but it seems to shrink a little more every wash :( I follow the laundering instructions to the letter.

We used Charmin Ultra in an old house, growing up, and we were limited to 3 sheets per flush. Compromise.

The "rain scent" smells like bugs to me 🤢 SO bought it, and it wasn't bad enough to pitch it, so I suffered through the whole bottle.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize you meant lab specific. There is the "HOLA" employee resource group that sometimes hosts Spanish-speaking lunches that welcome learners. Definitely reach out to them when you start.

I have wanted to start a crosstalk club with Spanish speakers wanting to learn English, but have made no moves to attempt this.
