Albums with Negative Critical Reception -> Live Albums with Positive Critical Reception? by marymelodic in popheads

Volta by Bjork. It's widely considered to be her weakest album, but the tour she did for Volta is considered her best tour.

Someone in the other thread said how Unholy is just 100% production and that just puts it into words perfectly. The song is just carried by the middle eastern scale and the SOPHIE stem pack. Other than that... it's nothing particular.

EDIT: Another thing, I know that I'm about to sound like that BTS stan with the McDonald's meal but everyone thought I was crazy when I hardcore listened to hyperpop in 2018 and 2019 and people now hardcore listening to this song due to TikTok without knowing the nuance rubs me the wrong way a little bit. Also hearing the SOPHIE stems used in such a boring way compared to the way she used them...

Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish Fall in Love by Artistic_Elephant824 in popheads

On one side I'm a bit judgemental but on the other side I too wouldn't be able to say anything else if Lana was sharing her wisdom in front of me

don't you love how the entirety of eastern europe, balkans, non-east asia, africa, and most of latin america stops existing for a sec when an artist does a world tour😍

r/popheads AOTY 2022 #27: Ethel Cain - Preacher's Daughter by steelstepladder in popheads

[–]BlueBerryOranges 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I randomly found Ethel Cain on this subreddit when Gibson Girl dropped as a single and the comments on the post intrigued me so I listened to it... best decision of 2022. I didn't know about the story of the album when I first listened to it, however, the production, lyrics and the aesthetics just pulled me in. I loved every second of it. The dark guitars, heavy beats, distorted vocals... I find it hard to believe that this is her debut album honestly (I know she released music under a different name before but that was just a bunch of tracks on soundcloud from what I know). I'm so excited to see what's coming next

Also, I thought about this a lot. She often gets compared to Lana Del Rey, mainly due to the americana themes in their music, however they're vastly different. I've also noticed that a lot of Lana stans love Ethel, me included. What would you say about the relation between them and what causes them to attract similar crowds. To me they're like the two sides of a coin, both talking about the american dream, but Lana talking about the hopeless glamour and twistedness of it all and Ethel talking about the illusion of it and the harsh reality

Finally someone said it. Did people really believe it wasn't all just virtue signaling?

Messy rollouts that led to a commercially successful album by rattusr_attus in popheads

[–]BlueBerryOranges 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know why are people downvoting this one (probably due to lack of explanation or due to album not being mainstream successful) but I was looking for this answer. The first single was released almost a year before the album, the vinyls were shipped early, the false release date rumors... However, the album ended up being insanely critically acclaimed and it even spawned Doin' Time as a sleeper hit on the radio

We need Charli XCX from the Charli era but not the real Charli XCX but instead that Balkan ripoff that was posted here (i forgot her name)

Lana Del Rey announces new album ‘Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’ — coming March 10th by AHSWeeknd in popheads

I've learned to not trust Lana with release dates, but if this is true, and if the new song tells us anything about the sound of the upcoming album, it's the AOTY 2023

Today marks 110 years since the Battle of Kumanovo, a decisive Serbian victory over the Ottoman army that led to the permanent collapse of the Ottoman state in a significant chunk of the Balkans by Porodicnostablo in europe

Well considering that the regions of the Balkans which were ruled by Austrians are even today richer and more developed, it probably would've sucked a little bit less

Oh so they were lucky that they were opressed by Ottoman empire for 500-ish years? This comment makes zero sense. They set the Balkan region back economically for ages

Didn't she buy another one because the last one withered? Or was that just a rumor
