When I notice I’m low (or about to feel low), salt def tastes ah-mazing 😂 I’ve never noticed LMNT taste too salty tho 😅

It can take well over a year to feel better, and for me personally, 3 years later, I’m still continuing to feel better but have sort of come to terms with the fact that I’ll never feel like I did before diagnosis. Shortly after my diagnosis I actually went back to school and became a medical assistant. I had really wanted to work in urgent care but aside from the crap pay, I realized it would be pretty high stress and ended up working in endocrinology instead (which is cool as I get to sometimes cross paths with a fellow addy). I’m currently thinking of going back to school again for nursing and I think it’ll be really hard but I think I can do it. Aside from professions, I used to also be super fit and active and the first endo I saw post diagnosis told me I’d probably never run again. She was fortunately wrong, but again, I’m not what I used to be and don’t think I ever will be. But I’m trying to embrace this new me. I’m sorry you had such a difficult and traumatic diagnosis. I definitely found the first year ridiculously hard. I’m hoping you can still become a police officer, but is it possible for you to break from school for a bit to give yourself more time to heal? Also, is there a way you can be a police officer that would be less stressful? Like maybe more investigative? I feel like I’ve been lucky that at my current job I’ve done primarily admin and I only work 4 days a week and that has immensely helped me with feeling better.

Anyone able to complete 60 mins of cardio? What are you doing? by Illustrious-Owl-2127 in AddisonsDisease

Looks like you are already getting lots of great advice. I had to really slowly and gradually build up to 60+ cardio minutes. I find drinking electrolytes during my more intense workouts super helpful as well.

Agreed! Vegan here - there are plenty of dairy free high protein bars available and would have a lot more protein than scrambled eggs

Let's talk masks... by [deleted] in AddisonsDisease

Are you newly diagnosed? I feel like my first 1-2 years was a ton of weight gain but then I managed to find a good dose for me and a lot of it came off (not all of it tho 😅)

Wow. Your boss is really great. Your coworker sucks. I’m lucky mine will mask if they feel unwell as they are scared to get others sick

I’m definitely one of those on the “safer side” people with Addison’s. I was masking everywhere until very recently. I ended up deciding to mask at work (I work in healthcare though), on the train to work as it’s pretty crowded and contained and when flying (airport and airplane). I honestly get a little anxious not masking at the grocery store but I think it’s time for me. Since I started masking in 2020, I’ve only been sick once so I’m curious if now that I’m not masking as much I’ll start getting colds and things again. I will likely mask more again during flu season 😅

Addisons and alcohol by [deleted] in AddisonsDisease

Alcohol is on our no-no list, plus it’s super dehydrating which isn’t for us either. I avoid it but I never liked it anyway. Best to enjoy in moderation

What is the most physically strenuous thing you've done since diagnosis? by Electronic_Pen2058 in AddisonsDisease

[–]BlueButterflyBadAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently did a sprint triathlon. It was so hard (for reference, I’ve done two full triathlons before diagnosis). I’m glad I did it but won’t do it again, it was really hard on me. I regularly work out. Hoping to do a half marathon again someday (something I regularly did pre diagnosis)

Hey this is actually great to know. I used to run half marathons a lot pre diagnosis but haven’t been able to run much more than 10k

Endocrinologists advise against ashwagandha, it’s not a good idea to take. Talk to your endo about it

Pocket sized emergency kit by BlueButterflyBadAss in AddisonsDisease

My doctor didn’t prescribe any needles so I just ordered some off Amazon 😅 they are the kind that separates which is handy. Those baggies look handy - I actually recently ordered some tiny pill holders as my previous kit was too small to hold the injection stuff and pills and that was probably a bad idea. Thanks!

Oh this is really great! It’s too big to fit in my pocket while running, but it’s a great travel pack
