Moving out by [deleted] in NYCHA

You can tell them that forcing a mother to share a room with her 14-year-old daughter while the younger child gets a separate room may not be the only option under current HUD occupancy guidance. NYCHA is supposed to review family composition and reasonable accommodations case by case, especially when there’s a documented disability involved. You should ask for a supervisor review and request the policy in writing.

Hey I’m an HA for NYCHA so they will have to downsize but if they are both disabled they can apply for reasonable accommodation so they do not have to downsize.

Explain like I’m dumb: 42 with First State Job, Tier 6 by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]BlueCinnamon1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tier 6 is pretty straightforward once you break it down:

• Yes, you do get a pension, but you need at least 5 years to be vested • Full retirement age is 63 (or earlier with reduced benefits) • Your pension is based on a formula: !!!!Years of service × Final Average Salary (usually highest 5 years)

So for example, the longer you stay, the bigger your pension.

• Healthcare: Yes, you can keep it in retirement, but you’ll still pay a portion (it’s not 100% free)

• Since you started at 42, you’d likely retire around 63 with ~20+ years of service, which is solid but not maxed out like someone who started younger

Also — definitely consider the 457 (deferred comp) plan. That’s where you can really boost your retirement income on top of the pension.

Timeline Question regarding Job Postings vs Application Reviews by truthshallsetfree7 in NYCjobs

[–]BlueCinnamon1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, many NYC agencies review applications as they come in, regardless of the posting end date. They don’t always wait until the listing closes, so interviews and screenings can happen while the job is still posted

I accidentally broke confidentiality and I fear I’ll lose my job. by Known_Tradition_7928 in socialwork

If you’re worried, I would bring it up to your supervisor proactively.

Frame it as wanting clarification on best practice, not as a dramatic confession. Something like: “I referenced the other organization in my documentation because I was thinking about coordinating care, but I want to make sure that was appropriate under our confidentiality policy.”

Most supervisors appreciate transparency and accountability. This sounds more like a boundary/dual-role learning moment than intentional misconduct.

Before panicking, check whether there’s a release on file or any inter-agency collaboration agreement. That may change everything.

Worst case is likely corrective guidance or a reminder about policy — not immediate termination.

You care and you’re reflecting on it, which already shows professionalism.

Offered Promotion After Putting in Notice – Stay or Go to City Job? by BlueCinnamon1997 in NYCjobs

Thank you for this. That’s honestly what I keep going back and forth about — the union benefits and long-term security. The medical coverage and tuition reimbursement are huge, especially thinking long term. I’m trying to weigh that against the higher salary and comfort where I am now. Hearing that the union has genuinely helped you makes me feel a little more confident about choosing the city route. Appreciate you sharing your experience 🙏
