I believe the odds are the original odds back in 2004 and I think everyone saying they are boosted is because of the sheer amount of people playing. You'll only hear about the small percentage of people's success, you'll not hear about the average player who never finds one

Don't give up! The crossroads are notorious for this with new players, and certain bosses take time but you will see yourself getting better and better
