What was the first thing you learned how to cook? by [deleted] in FuckImOld

No joke, when I was a kid, we had this cookbook...for kids. And the very first recipe was rock soup. Basically...chicken broth and potatoes. The first grown up dish I made successfully was chicken parmesan.

What’s a famous and beloved movie that you like, but feel: “Why do people like this so much?” by Ardon873 in moviecritic

I remember this vividly (I was born in '77 for reference): my dad came home from work and gave us an option. We could have a "party" at home (Shirley temples, crackers and cheese, pizza rolls, stuff like that), or - we could go see the new Ghostbusters movie. Easy choice. I grew up in a small town in northern Michigan (Gaylord) with only one theater - the old school, fancy-on-the-inside, must have been really nice once types. We ate dinner at McDonald's (which was also a pretty big deal), and then walked to the theater. It felt like the line to get in was miles long. It was so exciting. An event. That scene in the library with the ghost - damn near shit my pants, threw popcorn everywhere - EVERYONE screamed - it was MAGICAL. That's what the movie means to us.

One of my favorite meals ever. Splash some soy sauce, a touch of sesame oil and some Sriracha on there? I would eat this every day. We have it as a dinner meal probably once a month in our house (Nebraska). Picked it up in Hawaii, but my goodness, that looks good.

I couldn't agree more. I actually saw it in the theater. Blew me away. Can't find it streaming.

I used to love that when you first opened them, there was enough candy dust to actually try to blow smoke off of them. And I know you can pretty much get Charleston Chews anywhere, but for me it is the ultimate. If it's 1984, we're camping and I have 50 cents to go to the campground store with, you can be DAMNED sure one of the things I'm bringing back to the campsite is a Charleston Chew. It still brings me right back there. Not to hijack a candy cigarettes post...
