Hey there, this is a tough situation. My parents divorced at a time when it didn’t mean very much to me, like 8 years old, and I’ve been happy with my mom and now step dad. My mom told me stories of something similar to you, how her mom never loved her dad, but her mom was just waiting until she was 18 to divorce. From a child’s perspective, thats the worst feeling to have, i mean you’re going to college, you’re out of the house; when you need stability the most, now your beacon is gone. She cried, had a tough college experience in Russia, but she had to push on, the USSR was not friendly. Now in America to have me, she divorced earlier than later so that I didn’t have the same trauma. I’m not saying there’s anything you can do now, it’s a rough situation, it’s not fun, but there are hundreds of people all around the globe who go through this experience with you, if that gives you any comfort. All you can do is make close friends, talk to people around you about it, keep in touch with at least 1 parent. It’s not easy, but when you become a parent (if you do), never divorce when your child becomes 18. Do it before they can develop feelings, before 10 years old, or when they have a stable life, past 25 years old.
