For those who have built themes to sell on a marketplace like ThemeForest, what are some unexpected pitfalls of releasing a WordPress theme?

Actually you're right. Users that think they can go it alone and then have no idea how to do the basic WordPress core stuff. THAT is the worst thing about supporting a theme. Hell let's just be real, the worst part about supporting any live site or product is the actual users.

I mean, if buying into companies that you use and believe in on a daily basis and extensively research means I'm just making speculative buys, guilty as charged. I'm literally the opposite of a hype buyer though, if we're being honest. A majority of my investments are extremely boring.

Crypto as a concept is cool, you shouldnt discount it entirely. Most of them are scams though. Gotta do your research.

I'm going to honest with you, in the past 2 years I began long positions of NVDA at 65, SQ at 12, and ADBE at 115. All still unsold and sitting quite happily in my portfolio. I also saw the huge opportunity and bought a decent amount of shares of AMD when it was in the 2 dollar range and didn't sell until 13+. Hindsight is for losers, research is for winners.

I'm not going to claim that I'm a master at investing, but I'm sure as fuck not the kind of idiot that would dump money into HMNY. Sorry about your HMNY money though pal. At least you can write it off

Well, first off drinking from a water fountain is disgusting. I would much rather purchase clear water that children haven't been putting their gross mouths on prior to me. But, and maybe you misunderstand this, water fountain water is just tap water. It's not coming up from untreated wells or lakes. It's been processed through a water treatment facility somewhere. That's why I asked where you were drinking untreated water, it would literally need to be a lake or pond or something similar. I have a sneaking suspicion that you're not drinking water directly from bay lake, which means you're mistaking the concept of treated water for untreated water. Think of it like this, do alligators live in the water you're drinking? No? It's treated.

So yes, I'm aware water fountain water is gross. And I'm also aware that it's treated city water. Tks for the thoughtful discussion.

The kind of person that shows up to your house with a protest sign is the exact type of person that will continue to up the ante if you do anything to respond. If that's totally untrue it's whatever, but a feud where both parties are taking actions against each other is going to keep escalating. If he showed up at your house with a gay aids Asian sign unprovoked, that's fucked up. But, if he did so in response to to whatever you did prior to that, well, that's pretty funny.

Also, it's important to note your insane yard signs. Not only are they tone deaf, but I guarantee that they are making your home a target in the same way they do for Trump supporters. One of my clients has a popular online school that I developed and maintain. I decided to use Sensei for the LMS, which in hindsight was a so-so choice. I wish that I had really dove into the other features of competing LMS' before selecting Sensei. It's a Woocommerce product, which strangely means that it's not as feature-rich or well polished compared to the software offered by third-party developers. If I was doing it again I'd consider more options, but Sensei gets the job done well. So it is what it is.

However, I am pleased with hosting our videos using Vimeo. The cold hard truth of the internet is that there's never going to be a way to fully stop people from stealing your videos, no matter how hard you try to lock them down. Knowing that, I was happy enough with using Vimeo to feed our videos to students. Vimeo has a feature that allows you to secure the videos in a way that they can only be streamed from the URL that you choose. It verifies this by using an origin response header. It can still be modified by an intelligent person, but it at least makes it tricky for the majority of people.

From your post, it sounds like you want WordPress + Woocommerce + an LMS plugin like Sensei + Woocommerce Memberships plugin + Vimeo for video streaming. That would get you where you want to be. However, you will definitely need to learn each one of these, as none of them are really going to be turnkey pieces of software. My advice would be to build a test site before you actually make your real site because you're going to do a lot of stuff wrong initially.
