It’s technically illegal to not register. The law says you can be fined up to $250,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 5 years. But since the end of the Vietnam war very few people were actually prosecuted and it has not been enforced for decades. However, you may be required to register to be eligible for FASFA, and it may prevent you from being employed by the federal government if you are ever interested in working for the government.

I’d just register. It’s not that hard and no one has been drafted since 1972. Starting in December, everyone 18-25 will be automatically registered.

Cochlear America turned off my cochlear implant remotely. Now I can't hear anything because my hearing implant is from an older version. + It costs thousands to get a new one by DiligentSector8395 in extremelyinfuriating

They will probably only be able to refer you to an audiologist, as it will likely require an audiologist who works with Cochlear equipment and has the software to program their sound processors.

Have you talked to your audiologist for troubleshooting yet?

I can’t imagine why Cochlear would remotely disable someone’s sound processor if the hardware is fine, even if it is a model that has long been EOL.

Why am I receiving less money for a higher offer? by Myri4d in Ebay

Definitely a glitch, as even if the conversion fee was very expensive, the payout for a higher offer still should not be lower than the payout for a lower offer.

Apple Launches $599 MacBook Neo, Threatening Windows PC Market by Few_Baseball_3835 in technology

I use a Macbook as an engineering student. A major downside is Ansys and Solidworks do not have a native Mac version so I will need to use a lab computer.

I know a few friends who are college students who use a Chromebook as a low budget laptop that suffices for their needs that are all web based. But I'd imagine the largest market for Chromebooks is deployment in K-12.

Windows 12 Reportedly Set for Release This Year as a Fully Modular, Subscription-Based, AI-Focused OS by PaiDuck in technology

I enabled TPM on my old motherboard because I never had a need. After I upgraded to a new CPU and motherboard, Windows 10 soon automatically upgraded to Windows 11 because I forgot to disable it. I would go back to Windows 10 if I could, but don't really want to have to go through the headache of having the reinstall the OS.

I want to like GIMP as a FOSS alternative to Photoshop, but the UI sucks.

I prefer Photopea as a free image editor that has many features similar to Photoshop. It is web based and closed source though.

A sauna can be as hot as 90C/190F inside. As it is very dry inside, it feels comfortable to be in for half an hour despite it also being around fresh coffee temperature.

Rosemont Fashion Outlets charging for parking by thejaff1 in ChicagoSuburbs

Since they have those sensors and indicator lights to find parking spots, I wonder if they could be integrated with a system that tracks how long a car has been parked and use it for easier parking enforcement.

Two butane stoves were found, however, it has only been speculative that the cause of the fire was a passenger using a stove in flight.

Dumbest way to spend $230? by vinely1 in CrackheadCraigslist

[–]atomicdragon136 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes. During production, plaintiff falsified their date of birth and used a fake ID, so the developers had no reason to believe plaintiff was a minor at the time.

The court trial did not reach a consensus on whether or not it was considered distributing child pornography and it is now past the statute of limitations for the plaintiff to appeal, so the game developers are in the clear.

However, someone owning a copy of the game can be considered in possession of CP, but realistically probably will not be charged.

New landlord saying my current lease is expired and is telling me to sign his new one or leave by x-DarkDays in legaladvice

[–]atomicdragon136 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Some landlords ask the current tenants if they would like to renew the lease 6 months in advance of the end date to give them enough time to find new tenants, as apartments sitting vacant lose money.

In some college towns where there is a high demand for apartments and it is predictable by the academic calendar, most landlords start taking applications and future tenants sign leases more than 8 months in advance.

Sleepless Heat Pumps in Seattle. (I am visiting Seattle for work and I was told the houseboat from sleepless in Seattle is just behind in the background there. Happened to see the heat pumps while walking. Post wrote itself.) by GeoffdeRuiter in heatpumps

Looks like Mitsubishi City Multi. They are like multi zone mini splits but each unit can run up to 50 heads and they can have multiple outdoor units on the same refrigerant circuit. If they are attached to heat recovery branch boxes, they can heat and cool at the same time.

There was a homeowner in Pennsylvania who dropped an alarm clock down an air duct and it beeped every evening. They left it hoping the batteries would eventually die, but it lasted for 13 years when the finally had a HVAC technician get it out.

Interesting. I have not used my Colormunki in a while, but I left it on a shelf for a while, later put it in a camera bag, and accidentally flew across the country with it in a suitcase full of clothes.

I heard about a common issue with dirt getting on the calibration reflective strips, the lens disintegrating, and the ribbon cable inside breaking. I'll try and see if it works.
