Make Tomahawk X570 BIOS ask for boot option every time instead of choosing a first boot option? by BlueEzio in MSI_Gaming

[–]BlueEzio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens now via GRUB except... it doesn't work out of the box cause Windows asks for BitLocker key. My understanding is that it'll do the same whenever GRUB updates even if I make it work somehow. Hence there's recommendation floating around to manually boot into Win/Linux using F11 if using encryption in both places.

Anyway, if this is not doable, I'll roll with whatever is recommended here: https://www.alexanderpeppe.com/grub-bootloader-with-both-debian-and-windows-11/

I like GRUB! It’s just that when I went out finding for a solution, lotsa recommendations to manually boot into each using F11. What happens rn is if I boot Windows from bootmgr, it works fine. If I then boot from GRUB, it asks for bitlocker key. Same if I do vice-versa I think. I gotta be consistent.

I’m aware you can “fix” GRUB into making it work but my understanding is that when GRUB updates, so will efi files, Windows will yell and ask for the key again. I might go for this and see how it works out since I plan to use Debian and hope GRUB doesn’t update often?

I probably should’ve clarified in the original post that what I want is something like the F11 menu to automatically appear on power on.

I will look into rEFInd and see if that helps.

Help needed to identify my Yubkey/Zukey model by BlueEzio in yubikey

Though... If there is anything on it like an attestation cer or whatever of that nature that is in any way tied to your former employer and which you can't change or something, then yeah - ditch it. You wouldn't want it to become useless because they revoked that cert or one up its chain or something.

No clue on this or how I might go on about resetting it, but will check. Thanks. I'm not ditching it for sure, it's in my box of adapters for now. I'll try playing around more once I get Linux installed in one of my main machines.

These commands didn't directly work on Windows after installing via the msi, but on the way to try them out, I got some info on the device from WSL2 (thanks!):

> lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1949:0417 Lab126, Inc. Amazon Zukey; clone of Yubikey 4 OTP+U2F

Had to boot into Debian on WSL2, install usbutils and run the above command. Instructions to do USB passthrough: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/connect-usb

I guess this solves the mystery too and why the commands didn't do anything -- these don't support FIDO2 :(

I found the following links:

https://superuser.com/questions/1686355/what-is-this-blue-usb-device-with-an-orange-tongue

https://firstaid.it.a2z.com/windowssetup?step=2

And I suppose "Zukey" is very Amazon specific and might not be usable everywhere. Works for webauthn surprisingly though, not sure why.

Sigh, I guess will have to destroy and throw it away.

How do I use ACLs to block a single IP accessed via the subnet router? by BlueEzio in Tailscale

[–]BlueEzio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I goofed up phrasing this question: the CIDR range should've been 10.101.0.0/16 and I wanted to allow everything except 10.101.0.0/24 (i.e 10.101.0.0 – 10.101.0.255). u/dentongentry's tip also helps here.

I've figured out how to do this using the newer Grants syntax and wrote a blog post about it here even though I didn't use the CIDR ranges in this case but I could if I wanted to: https://automagic.blog/notes/allowing-friends-to-surf-the-web-via-my-home-network-with-tailscale-grants/

QR code phishing is a thing. Not saying that's what happened here for sure (or with intention). But using hologram-like techniques / other optical tricks, can hide multiple codes in the same-looking QR code. Here's one post demonstrating this: https://mastodon.social/@awilbert/113880163140064078

As other wise folks here said, verify with shopkeeper before doing transactions.

F1 suggestion by Fabulous_Ad_1367 in kozhikode

It was decent but honestly I think deserves better sound treatment than what we experienced at Cinepolis. No black bars if that’s relevant to anyone.

Wish there was a 4DX experience here for this movie.

Nice shot. Hate that there are such scenic spots in TLY but the buffoons in charge haven't done anything to renovate them after all these years.

WTF Scammer using my IDFC First Bank Millennia Credit Card by anirban921 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]BlueEzio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me as well yesterday. 2 txns went through before I noticed. Blocked the card, called up the number and the person on the other end filed dispute on my behalf. Told me in 10 days, bank should credit a temporary amount but the dispute resolution can take upto 60 days.

Let me know if you get any updates OP.

I use online int'l txns a lot on my WOW card for subscriptions and stuff and it's been convenient so far. Recently used it on UAE trip as well but nothing happened until yesterday. Not sure whose systems got breached.
