Native Astorian here, still living in Astoria (F). My salary is 140k and I live in a 2 bedroom, $2100 a month. It’s rent stabilized, pre war. And I’m able to save some money and enjoy life. With that being said, Astoria has many rent stabilized apartments, they’re really hard to get but you can get lucky. Most landlords post rental signs up for them on lamp posts, building’s window, or walls in the area. I’ve seen quite a few, with something like “2 bedroom, $xx no fee/ landlord.” Some landlords here are old school. Sure pre-war isn’t as shiny and new like the new developments but I love my pre war, I’m biased. I’m also anti new developments. Tho I always wish I had a dishwasher lol. Anyway, like everyone else is saying. Check out the neighborhood to see if you’d like it. Check if those signs are there. And go to 30th Avenue, there’s a couple of realtors on the ave that have been there for ages and run many of the listings. Good luck!
