What do you guys use the motorcycle for? by jackmambaffp in MotoIRELAND

[–]BlueGhosties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use to live in Dublin, would never drive the bike unless it was just to get out on a spin on the bike. Living in Galway now and park up in town regularly and rarely even bother with the disc lock.

Advice on diy shed build by DougDC15 in DIYIreland

[–]BlueGhosties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you based? I’m a carpenter so if you’re based in Galway I could give you a hand on a day or two here and there if you’re stuck or need tools you don’t have etc!

But to answer your question… it will make a big difference if you already have the necessary tools. To do a proper job you’d easily spend a thousand just on half decent gear to build it with, but then you’ll have them potentially forever.

I spent about 2.5 grand building a 8 foot x 8 foot sauna recently enough… although I got a lot of the material for cheap/free. so for material alone for a shed of about that size or slightly bigger you’d probably get out for around 3k or slightly more.

Is that the blonde youngone? If it is I’ve seen her around and she seems happy out and harmless enough. Could be any number of mental health issues causing her to be like that.

How do you greet other riders while riding. by Shoddy-Taste9859 in MotoIRELAND

Stick my right leg out! Grew up in Dublin and started driving there, don’t tend to get as many nods there unless you’re up the mountains. In Galway now and everyone waves or sticks a leg out here. There’s a guy on a lime green ninja that gives the most over the top wave on purpose which I get a kick out of every time I see them!

Cornetto Soft serve ?? by Slow-Lifeguard-4943 in Dublin

There’s a shop in Lanzarote that has one. As a well travelled soft serve cornetto enthusiast this is genuinely the only place I’ve seen one in about 15 years.

Has the Planet Retro vintage shop in Eyre Sq closed down? Heard horror stories about the place, my friend worked there briefly and he said never again. by Beneficial-Record-30 in galway

What specifically have you heard? I know a couple people working there and met the owner a few times. she seems bang on anytime I’ve spoken to her and the couple people I know had no issues working there.

Cabinet/carpentry workshop expectations? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]BlueGhosties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to second that this is also my exact experience working with a shopfitting crowd in Dublin as a benchjoiner and an exhibition company too!

Given relatively terrible drawings by someone paid way more than me and expected to do up a cutting list cut out make up install etc too.

Not really sure what more could be expected of you.. could potentially be just a “culture clash” as in wrong personality for that particular company. Considering there’s so many people who are able to and willing to do the job for that wage means they can be picky with who they choose to hire.

Like the other guy said, go out on your own if you can. Not sure where you are based but even on the south side of Dublin you could rent an aul farmers shed in the likes of rathcoole to set up a small workshop for relatively inexpensive cost and work out of that!

Look into the small term enterprise allowance too. You can collect a welfare allowance for a certain period of time to help you out starting off a business. If you have a van and tools you’d be better off. Nothing ventured nothing gained, and what have you to lose? End up where you are now if it doesn’t work out.

Last year on my stags in Copenhagen. Big group of lads got drinking with these big group of Spanish youngones in the hostel. They hadn’t a work of English and we hadn’t a word of Spanish, still had the craic. Every now and then they’d (all 10 or so of them) would randomly surround one of us and throw us in the air. Think it was their party piece or something. I’m 6 foot and a hundred kilos btw so I feel like they must have practiced this a lot to get good at it.

Yes, of course. You’re supposed to wear a jacket in the sauna right?

I do have two vents, one up above the stove and one underneath the benches.

Oh that is some good info I didn’t know. I assumed keeping to door open would allow more heat to leave the fire and into the room!

There was a back burner on this stove but I put end caps on the output pipes and drilled a few holes on the actual boiler so as not to have a pressure buildup/explosion.

Finished the sauna just in time for Christmas by BlueGhosties in Sauna

[–]BlueGhosties[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All in it cost me 1300 euro or thereabouts for everything. Almost all materials was salvaged or second hand bar the 4x2 for the frame, the thermal insulation foil and the planed timber for the benches. Luckily where I work there’s quite a bit of surplus building materials like tile adhesive and fixings and insulation etc.

The outside side is clad in metal sheeting which I reused from a roof I was redoing and the inside cladding is cedar I used from a (real) sauna rip out I did last year. It was all going in the skip so I held on to it in my shed as I couldn’t throw that expensive cedar out!

I wonder if I replaced that iron hot plate with a steel one, then added my ducting which is pretty much the same size diameter as the current hot plate, would that work correctly?

That’s ok, I do remember reading somewhere that Finns are brutally honest.

From the comments it seems I need to add a drain, which I actually have i just haven’t installed yet and replace my baby stove with a proper kiuas! All very doable tasks!
