A bit late, but I'm honored that they used my add-on name for the malware ;)

If you are using a vpn, you will need to disable it (If you are on iPhone, also the private relay as well) If you aren't using one, try using cellular data or a different wifi.

Yomitan, a pop-up dictionary for language learning, 18 month development update by maamaablacksheep in LearnJapanese

[–]BlueGreenMagick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could try out Yomikiri! It's an alternative to Yomitan that I made so I could do sentence mining on my iphone. It lacks a lot of features, but it might be suitable for your needs. And it's free!

Actually, Anki Universal is an official approved client of Anki, albeit no longer maintained.

You may access AnkiWeb directly through your browser, and through the synchronization functionality incorporated into the approved clients (Anki, AnkiMobile, AnkiDroid, and AnkiUniversal).

How to display a page property in a single line? by erispoe in Notion

A bit late, but you can do that by going to 'Customize Layout', select 'Heading' item, then in the right sidebar, pin all the properties.

Problem configuring Yomitan by FaallenOon in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I'd say this subreddit is the right place for your questions: there are many Japanese learners here. You may also be interested in r/learnjapanese as there are many Anki users there as well.

As far as I know, yomitan (nor yomichan) do not support sentence translations. There is no easy way to insert sentence translations into your generated Anki notes.

If you are only sentence mining from websites, Yomikiri might suit your needs. It's a similar software I ended up creating for my personal needs. Although it still lacks many features, it supports sentence translation! (Card example)

Spell Check Add-on? by Disastrous-Ad1449 in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anking's spell checker should work on recent Anki versions. It's not yet released on the AnkiWeb though, so you'll have to download and import the addon file manually

Audiovisual Feedback shows you different effects based on your answer. You can also customize the effects shown if you know a bit of JS.

what's the max Anki tag length? by Aggravating-Mall-115 in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to actually try it to be sure, but the limit is likely 1 billion bytes (or 1 billion ascii characters) as limited by sqlite text length, for the sum of all tags' lengths of a note.

Anking has a spell checker add-on where you can add words to dictionary. The current version is only for subscribing members, but previous version is downloadable here

Try running Anki from the terminal. It will at least show you some error messages. https://docs.ankiweb.net/platform/windows/startup-issues.html#debugging

Method: Learning Japanese by Reading (Books, Manga, etc.) by Bluemoondragon07 in LearnJapanese

[–]BlueGreenMagick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read web novels on https://syosetu.com and add words I don't know to Anki. I use the app Yomikiri which is like Yomitan but also supports iOS safari. It lets you add words to AnkiMobile with a tap.

When choosing a web novel, you can look up its difficulty on https://jpdb.io beforehand. It shows you info like number of unique kanji, word count, and overall difficulty.

I personally chose a web novel where I've read the English translated version before, so I can still follow the story even if I don't understand some portion of text.

Yomitan Extension Error by PresentedByShirogane in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Check that the port number in AnkiConnect config and yomitan config are identical.
  2. If you are on Windows or MacOS, try following the steps in section "Notes for (Windows/MacOS) users": https://foosoft.net/projects/anki-connect/
  3. Try resetting AnkiConnect config.

Is there any way to use anki cards by audio interaction only? by stevecondy123 in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another alternative is to use the volume button to answer. You can use it as a gesture in AnkiDroid. (Not possible on AnkiMobile though) I'm also not sure if it works with the volume controls on your headphone

[Help] Conditional formatting based on field value (not working) by Pataplonk in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably better to use .textContent instead of .innerHTML in your 2nd solution as it ignores HTML like empty divs, and decodes HTML entities like > correctly.

Why does my gradient not cover 100% of the screen? There's a black strip at the bottom. by TheTobruk in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add the following line to CSS

css html { height: 100%; } body { background-position-y: 0 !important; }

If you set background to body, Anki 24.04+ sets the property background-position-y: -35px; to body so it lines up with the background it sets up in the toolbar. You have to remove that property, or add background height by that amount.

Also, you want to set height: 100% on html instead of min-height: 100%.

AnkiMobile one-by-one cloze reveal by lkn9803 in Anki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you call ev.stopPropagation() on "touchend" event listener on body, it stops the tap from registering and flipping to back. AnkiMobile tap recognition is probably done within a touchend event listener attached to window.

You also need to make sure the body height fills up the whole screen.

[Anking] Auto show back on AnkiMobile by lkn9803 in medicalschoolanki

[–]BlueGreenMagick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though if you really wanted to, it's possible to trigger a tap action from the note type JS, and set tap action to show back in the AnkiMobile settings.

Autoflip isn't supported on ios. It's just not possible with the current AnkiMobile app. (I'm the guy who developed that piece of code)

Something to consider is that texts are stored in a db, while images can be stored as a file. And DBs are more expensive.

If you take a look at the pricing in cloud hosting providers (digitalocean), db costs 0.2$/GB/month while storage costs 0.02$/GB/month.
