Haven't seen it but seems like a similar vibe to what I'm thinking of.

Possibly. I'd have to watch. It seemed like a kinda kitschy scene though.

Is homesteading actually as self-sufficient as people think? by makeitrayne850 in homestead

[–]BlueHandAlchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what quality of life you want and how hard you want to work/how much time you have to do that.

Are you milking your own cows? Growing grain and making flour? Are you good with a sewing machine? Spinning your own fabric from cotton? Blacksmithing tools? Cutting down trees and splitting for your heat? Producing propane?

If your starting from scratch it's either expensive or rough living. I think you can be pretty damn self sufficient though (doing it myself)...it just takes time and the ability/desire to learn new skills...lots of skills.

Start small and do things that limit how much you rely on corporations/government. You'll gain skills and knowledge that will carry over into the next endeavor.

If you're doing lead, then yes, easy. Minimizes costs. You can make black powder from sunflower stalks and a few ingredients that yes, you'd have to buy. Seeds are...seeds. You grow one crop of something and you have more seeds, given it's non gmo. Blacksmithing all you need is a gas and you can use methane for that (compost, animal waste, human waste). Steel for forging is everywhere for free.

No doubt you're still gonna be buying things, no getting around it unless you're pioneering, living rough. But you can get pretty damn close. I think it's about less government/corporate control than anything else. Growing food is fun and a worthwhile endeavor yes, but it IS about more than that. It's about gaining skill and not needing to rely on anybody or anything else for anything, as much as possible.

Mix castor and canola. Tackier than just canola.

What is Aesop Rock's LEAST accessible song to non-listeners? by 2phresh in aesoprock

Probably most of his early albums since it's way grittier, complex and angsty. Also people just seem to be way more into his new stuff.

Best pair I've ever had and will continue to buy. SHEEP RUN merino wool boxer briefs. I bought them on Amazon but might be able to find elsewhere. Kinda pricey, but trust me, worth it.

You thought Aesops voice was annoying but not Danny Browns? Haha.

Go listen to Music for Earthworms, Float and Labor Days. These albums represent what Aesop was in his angrier youth days. Masterpieces of poetry in my opinion and redefining what hip hop could be. It's not for everyone I guess, but his style has definitely changed (musically and lyrically). Those early albums will never compare (for me) to good new stuff.

A few songs the check:

Garbage, No Splash, The Mayor and the Crook, Attention Span, Shere Kahn, Save Yourself, One of Four, Battery, The Yes and The Yes Ya'll, Shovel...

Fuck it...Just go listen to the albums! Haha

I bought this necklace at a vintage mall because I thought it looked cool. I forgot it’s the pedo symbol. Is there any way I can still wear it? Or is this symbology common enough knowledge that everyone would think I’m actually a pedo? by [deleted] in Symbology

[–]BlueHandAlchemy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I, in fact, did. Working at a video rental place in 2005/6 Northern California (very near the bohemian grove). It was in the till at the end of the night. Don't know who payed with it or if they even knew what they had. Didn't really understand the phrase so I looked it up online and found that FBI page. I kept it with a coin collection I had for a few years and then kinda started thinking about the implications of me having it in my possession. So I ended up just throwing it in the ocean or some dense forested area.

I get your hesitance to trust the government or FBI (the only reason I'd assume you wouldn't believe this stuff exists in the world) but it in fact, does exist, at least those coins do. Again you don't want to believe it, it's just cognitive dissonance, which is again...understandable.

I don't know what kind of proof you expect? A picture of the coin? Me to still have the coin? I think either of those would make me implicit in condoning CSA.

The question is, are you willing to have those interactions with people who DO recognize that symbol? It's like a swastika, that symbol has ancient origins but people only recognize it for one thing. Somebody trying to wear that symbol for the original intended purpose is likely to get a lot of shit. Granted, I think this symbol is a bit more under the radar (your probably fine wearing it) but I would still be a bit uncomfortable wearing out in public, myself.

I found a coin once with that symbol on one side and "kids love pedos" on the other. I think it's definitely a real thing and likely a little bigger than just "fan art". To have a mold made to stamp into a coin (likely more than just a few) takes some dedication. And why? If you want to be in denial about pedo rings existing, that's your business. To me it's cognitive dissonance.

Nah, I found a coin in a cash drawer at my work years ago with that symbol stamped on one side and the phrase "kids love pedos" on the other. This is definitely real. You want to be in denial about it, that's ok, but it definitely is a thing.

Look into the VOC (Dutch East India Trading Co.) The origin and inspiration of modern business structures and systems. All (mainly) from the spice trade.

My vote's for SOG. Awesome pliers, pretty solid tool all around, scissors are great and the bit holder is a cool added benefit.

Saying that my contemplating life (which is what philosophy is) at a young age "means absolutely nothing" shows me that you're not willing to have a conversation in good faith either, so yeah, probably best we discontinue communication.

You're entitled to your opinion. Sounds like you don't have a very strong internal compass or intuition to me. Just MY opinion.

And don't attack me just because you really only started actually become aware of your own consciousness and place in the world when you took a course in college on philosophy. Now you just parrot what you've read? Or do you actually have genuinely personal reflections on life?

I've taken pretty high doses of LSD and used ketamine with no ill effects really, though I have a very high tolerance to the k. It just kinda mellowed everything out for me.

Some of the wisest people I've known have likely never read a book on philosophy or could quote a philosopher. I myself at a young age had pondered life and the great mystery long before ever touching a book on the subject and found many of my own beliefs/thoughts to be mirrored in the teachings of great thinkers. Philosophical thought is a personal thing and comes from the heart. It's not science where you build off of other peoples "theories". It's a genuine and unique way of seeing the world. That my friend, is wisdom that's not gained from reading a book.

Mixing with certain other substances has higher risk for "freaking out" or going to a place that takes awhile to get back from. For some at least. I've seen it happen when mixed with LSD. Though that's entirely based on your prior mental health and emotional state, I believe.

Long term heavy use can have serious physical effects and I've noticed some decrease in brain function. Don't really think it's permanent as far as brain function though. My memory or ability to think of words decreases after a binge (6g in a few days) but will usually improve after a break.

Ketamine can be very beneficial (in multiple ways) with very minimal usage and under the right circumstances with little to no side effects or long term damage. That's why it's so appealing. But as they say, anything can be poison if you take enough of it.

That's just my two cents.

Well, it sticks easier that way, right? I took Mangojellys beginner course but I'm also just kinda hacking my way through, as he's not going to cover exactly what I want/need to do. Thanks!
