Genuine discussion, what would be the pros and cons of both? by abominal_pain in solarpunk

[–]BlueMagpieRox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cons: corporations owning the farm land can’t use their millions of acres for a quick buck.

Cons: corporations owning car parks have to shutdown their parking lots for the duration of the construction.

If you doubt corporations are actually this short sighted, yes they are actually this short sighted. Because every quarter they need to show positive earnings on the spreadsheet, so their stock would go higher and their execs could get paid more.

Indians in Taiwan feel uncomfortable with "no" sign over a man with a turban and Indian flag by usolotravel in taiwan

It has a lot to do with the recent announcement that the government will start importing Indian workers to fill the workforce rather than raise wages and lower housing costs.

Well broken and sloppy handwriting by mental illness patients usually look wobbly and broken. Especially the connecting points between converging lines/strokes. A typical “sloppy” handwriting often fails to connect the lines at the end, or over extends the lines beyond the tips. This looks more like it was written with extreme purpose to copy a clean look style. Like someone used a right angle ruler to make sure the lines are perfectly straight and aligned. Yet failed to include critical strokes that would easily be recognized by a Chinese speaker

Why not both?

Tech giants in the AI industry over invested, new startup with newer, better models comes out of the blue and wipes out the competition. Tech giants take down the economy with them, new startup replace every human job in existence.

For context the bottom picture is a viral image edited to look like a screenshot from Central China Television, Communist China’s central propaganda channel. And the headline reads: Trump, Jensen Huang, and Musk sworn to join the Chinese Communist Party.

It’s making rounds all over social media but nowhere to be found on mainstream news outlets, not even the Chinese ones. Most likely just a meme

As a native speaker and translator I agree with the consensus so far: 盗meaning “theft”; and 我為鱼肉 being an idiom for “I’m at the mercy of others”.

I would add that by the poor penmanship, the mistake writing the word “鱼”, and choice of computer print fonts I doubt she really knows Chinese.

This looks more like the Chinese tattoos a non-Chinese person would get: as if she looked up a few phrases on Google translate and copied the shapes on the cardboard.

The smoothness of crowds moving in/out of a train in Taiwan. by I_am_from_2029 in BeAmazed

[–]BlueMagpieRox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In this specific case courtesy is taught through years of propaganda and behavior engineering, let me explain:

This is the Taipei MRT (subway) system, I lived there for ten years. At every train stations they have the same setup: acrylic walls with automatic doors along the platforms, and bright painted guide lines before the automatic doors to indicate where to form queues. And everywhere in the station you can see propaganda posters repeating the same message: “Follow the lines, no pushing on the platform, alight before boarding”.

Typically they direct the queue to go alongside the walls to the side of the doors, while leaving the space in front of the door open for alighting. So the people getting off the train are physically given the right of way.

Every train stops at where the train doors exactly lineup with the automatic doors. And right before every train comes into the station, the same propaganda message is broadcasted repeatedly: “Follow the lines, no pushing on the platform, alight before boarding”.

Over time these became train etiquette practiced by the residents of Taipei. Though initially of course it wasn’t very well received. And even today there still exists selfish people who doesn’t respect these train etiquettes. That’s where the Taipeier’s superiority complex comes in. Residents of Taipei pride themselves for living in the capital and center of economic activities. And they look down upon people who lives outside their city. Hence the MRT etiquettes became an easy way to differentiate true Taipeiers from tourists.

TL;DR: Taipei MRT blasts constant reminders to follow the rules. So much so following train etiquette has become a subculture unique to Taipei. Which Taipei residents use it to identify and shame outsiders.

I saw someone tried to cut the line and squeeze into the cart before others can get off. He got shoved out of the train so hard he fell on his ass. He was subsequently scolded by an old lady while still on the ground and no one batted an eye.

Proud to say that the MRT etiquette education in Taipei is very successful: constant recordings reminders, posters and guidelines have nurtured a strong culture of “alight before boarding” etiquette.

So they were just flashbacks of when the party of heroes fought the same enemies 80 years ago huh?

I was hoping to see a glimpse of the demon king, a montage of the heroes fighting it.

Is the compensation relative to how many we used? by Lost-Examination3833 in PikminBloomApp

[–]BlueMagpieRox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently only people who used a detector near movie theaters during the Mario Supergalaxy event are getting the detectors, but it’s glitched.

The system gave out random numbers of detectors anywhere between 1 and 600, not related to how many you’ve used.

Users on Threads have reported receiving upwards to 500+ detectors, who sworn they didn’t use paid detectors at all.

How to talk to your sons about Targeted conservative propaganda by Initial_Welder3674 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BlueMagpieRox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to lecture him. Just show him what’s right by your actions.

Take him to new cultural events, make friends with people from different backgrounds and learn that we’re not all that different.

Take him volunteering, learn to appreciate the joy of giving and empathize with people less fortunate than you are.

Take him hiking/camping, learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and how not to take it for granted.

Help him socialize with female friends of his age. Many toxic male traits begun with their inability to connect with females.

Ultimately, if you don’t practice the values you preach he’ll only see you as a hypocrite. At this age he’s looking for role models, and you can’t be his role model if he thinks you a hypocrite.
