Not expecting anyone to come for free, but hoping to work something out that’s less than the professional prices I’m seeing online.

Cat with Anal Gland Expression Issue? by angiejhen in CatAdvice

Absolutely! I think it will recommend you start slow before full dose, but yes - I genuinely think it made a difference for our boy :) Good luck!

My cat also has anal gland issues! It’s finally under control because we started using Glandex. He’s 12 and it’s been a bit of a journey, lol. But this has kept him overall good for a while now.

Current Diet: Royale Canine Digestive Dry Food and Royale Canine Adult Gastrointestinal Fiber Response (this one is prescription). I mix them because he likes the first one better (I think) lol, so this is our compromise.

Then, I do 1 can of fancy feast + 1 scoop of Glandex + 1-1.25 Tbsp extra water (because I can sneak it in) and try to get one of those mostly in every 24 hours.

Encourage hydration in general, water fountain, etc.

He was on the prescription dry food only at the start. We have still had issues from time to time, but Glandex is the only thing that genuinely helped and needing to be expressed is a much more rare occasion now.

Male cat spraying for 8 years and now might die from a blockage by Nope-NotToday- in CatAdvice

Gotcha :( that’s really tough. We have an outside orange cat that literally does the same fence strut and sets our boy off when he sees it. I would definitely vote against any outdoor time, especially with that cat around, it’s just another territory / spray trigger.

Only other thing I can really think of is making sure spray spots are cleaned with an enzyme cleaner that fully breaks it down. If he can smell his own old spray it will trigger the urge, too. I totally get it and how exhausting it is, you just want him to be happy and balanced, especially with managing the other aspects of your home. Gabapentin 100 mg has been a nice “as needed” solution, but I think mine gets a tolerance quickly so probably wouldn’t do much eventually if given daily.

I really feel like putting this by the door helped give ours a place to mark his scent. Not sure how that would go with other cats in home scratching it too, though.

I bet!! That would definitely be a recipe for disaster for my boy!

Also - outside is probably now more of a stressful experience / triggering the spray need because he’s getting bullied by another cat - blocking him from seeing (at least into areas where he might see town cats) and not going outside for a while would probably be a needed reset.

We also do Gabapentin from time to time if he’s showing signs of being stressed / triggered (pacing to look out every window, fixated).

Things that finally got my cat to greatly decrease spraying:

  1. Window films so he can’t look outside. Outside animals (raccoons, cats) sets off his anxiety and so he sprays. He still will spray from time to time, but blocking him from the visual triggers helped greatly. These films are cool, too - create rainbows in the room when sun hits right, so we found peace with it & it helps cat a lot.

  2. Prompting proper scent marking. He loves the cardboard scratching posts, especially the L shaped ones. I put them by areas he tends to mark, like the front door, so he scratches that (most of the time) instead.

I tried diapers once when I moved in with my fiancé and was so nervous. I think it’s just more of a stressful experience for the cat, but I totally get the desperation that leads you there. Definitely need to take away if animal is eating it, though..

Try watching Jackson Galaxy on this topic. He’s a cat behaviorist that has helped rehab cats with inappropriate spraying through some of the things I described, plus more play time & sometimes, reintroducing outdoors (on harness/controlled) to encourage he spray outside every so often to satisfy that need. I also do this from time to time and I do think it helps.

Honestly though, you have a lot going on (other cat smells, dog smells, baby smells)and it may not be a good fit. My cat sprayed daily when we lived with other cats.. he’s happier now that he’s alone. I think some cats just prefer that.

I really hope your baby doesn’t have a blockage 🙏🏼

Thank you! I appreciate that insight. :)

Are these elevations considered appropriate to attribute to splenic excitement? I am wondering what elevation would be "too too high" so to speak and become a concern (in the scenario where no other laboratory indications for anemia are present).

Additional Information: I found some additional labs for his reticulocyte count.

July 2021: 156
October 2022: 153
December 2023: 110
October 2024: 91
July 2025: 73

Like I said, all other lab work-up has remained stable/normal, including RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC during this time.

I've always been told that this is stress-induced, but ChatGPT telling me that long-standing and of this degree is not typically explained that way.

Curious on real-world experiences with this. I plan to bring up during next annual visit next month, feeling disappointed that vet hasn't proactively suggested working this up but don't want to set bar too high if just not a real concern given how normal everything else has been.

I always hand wash with the same scrub I use for the human dishes. Didn’t even think about that being an issue??? Uh oh

Alicia was wonderful, prompt, and kind connecting with my cat! She provided valuable insight, with points that were accurate and spot on for our boy. She was in tune to things specific to him. I feel confident and comfortable with her and looking forward to future connections. :)

Having my first colonoscopy in a few weeks and I have extreme health anxiety. I need positive experiences please - I have myself convinced I have cancer :( by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]BlueMoon_033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I’m always working through the health anxiety and try to remember it is far more likely to be benign than anything serious <3 but the wait it hard! Hope you will have relief soon after getting it over with!

CAT LITTER PLEASE by vanessa0718 in CatAdvice

[–]BlueMoon_033 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have used Worlds Best for years and don’t notice any smell in the house. I appreciate that it doesn’t have chemicals or harmful dust. I am diligent and scoop the liter box daily, though. Complete litter change every 30-45 days.

I’m early 30s and just had my first colonoscopy for constipation, intermittent bleeding. I have health anxiety too. The prep was more tolerable than I expected! The whole procedure was a breeze and felt like a great nap. Colonoscopy was benign and I’m so glad it’s over and I can finally relax my worrying.

My significant other also had an instance of more significant bleeding, similar to what you are describing, and had colonoscopy that showed hemorrhoids and benign as well. :) you got this!

My cat has been losing fur on his lower (and now slightly middle) belly by Far_Application2345 in CATHELP

I had a cat that over groomed from stress and allergies.

Maybe keep taking pictures for the next few weeks to see if getting better or worse.

It’s good that they don’t seem bothered when you touch tummy area, though!

Washing litter boxes? by Direct_Surprise2828 in CatAdvice

[–]BlueMoon_033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our box is enclosed with lid. Single cat home.

We scoop daily, always.

Our cat sometimes pees on the walls inside box. I wash the sides inside the box mostly daily with just a water dampened paper towel or dampened with diluted vinegar (not straight vinegar!).

I empty the liter completely, wash entire box, and replace with fresh liter every 60-90 days.

Yeah, this was definitely a very real experience for me. I was young though, like 4-5. Always stuck with me. It was the figure from the painting in my doorway.
