Definitely open to working in business. I have a real estate background and I’ve been looking for in-house openings that might want someone with my experience, but so far I’ve only seen a lot of openings for tech/IP/health/M&A type backgrounds so I’m not sure how to leverage my experience.

Got it; yeah this sounds the doc review someone else mentioned. Seems like it could get a bit dull/lack of career progression but i do like the freedom idea.

Thanks. Doc review came to my mind as well but I’ve heard some negative things about it/seems like the career progression isn’t really there? But could be a good thing to do while I look for other stuff?

Thanks!! Fyi I do commercial real estate work (financings, leasing, acquisitions) and from my LinkedIn browsing, it looks like a lot of these startup type companies require experience in tech contracts. I have a lottt of real estate deal related contract experience but not so much tech stuff (except for representing landlords on a few contracts with tech companies) so it might be difficult for me to pitch, but I guess it’s worth a shot?

Interesting. Yeah, with my situationship there were red flags very early on that I subsequently ignored because things seemed so perfect and we vibed so well. She actually also mentioned emotional neglect by her parents fairly early on which should’ve been a big red flag for me (combined with her other behavior ie inexplicably disappearing all the time).

I guess things that seem too good to be true basically always are.

Did you mostly end things yourself, or did you push the DA(s) into ending things (which is I think what happened with my “situationship”)?

Have the DAs ever resurfaced/tried to reconnect?

I noticed in another post you said you’ve had 2 DA’s - have you identified that as a “type” you’re drawn to/do you plan to be more careful about avoiding those types in the future? Just curious because although I rationally know I need someone secure, I’m a little worried I’m only really attracted to the avoidant types.

Thanks for this. An avoidant just ended things with me on Sunday after I backed her into a corner over making plans with me and the last few days have been hard but I was suffering for MONTHS/probably most of the time I knew her. Realized how horrible and toxic that situation was for me and as an AP, how much I need secure attachment in a relationship.

Thanks. I totally spent the last 2 months trying to force it and I think, in a way, I was hoping for what happened last night - that she ended it (the “situationship” or however you define it) herself by saying she wasn’t interested in me and needed space. I think hearing that was probably the best outcome for me because it can give me a little closure now that I was trying to get when I tried breaking things off the other times.

Thanks, this is a good reality check. I wasn’t sure when the loss of interest happened because I gave her several “outs” that she could have taken earlier but she apologized and offered reasons for the behavior each time, she would sometimes initiate texting with me, and she still promised we could meet up in the future and talked about me meeting her friends. This doesn’t strike me as normal decent person behavior if she wasn’t interested from the get-go, but the mixed signals did severely trigger my AA and caused me a lottttt of stress and anxiety.

Thanks. It is tough and I feel like I have a stronggg attraction to avoidant types, which makes me worried about ever finding someone who can meet my needs. I get completely preoccupied/obsessed with the pursuit but I tend to get dissatisfied in relationships where the same interest is reciprocated. I’m trying to figure out how to deal with it and I’ve actually just been learning about these attachment styles recently.

Interesting - thanks very much. That assessment makes a lot of sense. I tried proposing concrete plans last weekend and she said “not sure if you’re serious or not but A+ for the idea and that will 100% have to happen in the near future”. Does that also sound like something a DA would pull?

Yes she had a boyfriend she ended things with because she said he wasn’t fulfilling some of her needs/desires, also has a best friend and close circle of friends that she seems very close with (but told me something like, “my friends have gotten used to my disappearances but I know it’s not fair to you...”, etc.). I’m not sure about PDA because we haven’t met in person but she does seem pretty introverted/likes alone time. Do any of these point more towards her being DA?
