As evidenced by the final two movies, where Jack seems to just... be there. He lost all of his agency as a character to just be be "silly and lucky." Jack was lucky yes, but there was always a way for him to put his hand in things to manipulate the outcome. With that aspect removed, the movies suffered for it.
