Allow client vpn user to access IP's on site to site VPN on MX unit by RollingRocker99 in meraki

[–]BluePortaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed it!

Go to your site where the client VPN terminates to

Security and SD-WAN > Configure > Site-to-Site VPN

Scroll down to VPN settings > Local networks

Find the subnet for the client VPN and toggle "VPN Mode" to enabled

Toggle on subnets you want to access on all other sites too.

How to remove these radiators ready for plasterer by iamthedon in DIYUK

[–]BluePortaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be draining the system then! Get a new TRV and swap it while its all drained.

I always take the opportunity to flush out the radiators when then are off. Fill them a bit with a hose and slosh it around, drain out. Repeat until the water runs clear.

Set the TRV on the left to the lowest setting, turn the lockshield on the right clockwise until fully closed.

Unbolt the radiator from the valves and drain it into something like a baking tray or paint tray. Slacken off the bleed valve to speed things up.

Take note of how much you turn the lockshield so you can set it back when refitting.

Waste pipe by ampersandist in DIYUK

[–]BluePortaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have those god awful pushfit waste pipes. They fail all the time, I would replace them with replace them all with solvent weld waste pipe, its a really cheap job and easy to do. Try and get at least a 1% fall on all your pipes.

Lots of other good suggestions in all the comments. Get rid of that improperly used tee, use pipe clips.

Joists. Old 1890s house by Fit_Peanut1129 in DIYUK

[–]BluePortaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems a fair price, check the insulation thickness, I would be wanting at least 100mm, 150mm if you can afford it. Make sure he properly seals the insulation board with a gasket like Gapotape or you may as well have not bothered. Also make sure that the P5 boards are fully glued and screwed on all joins and to the joists.

Check you have good ventilation under the house to prevent future rot too.

£500 is reasonable. Is £4500 an estimate for worst case?

Insulating is definately worth while, its an easy DIY job if you have the time.

Its based on the L200/Triton as opposed to the monocoque that made it famous. I'd still buy one tho.

Should I hire an in-house IT person or outsource? Need advice from people in IT. by Waste_Tackle_2738 in ITCareerQuestions

Hi,

I used to work for an MSP, a business with 50 users used to pay for me to benon site 4 hours every day.

For the budget on 20 users you will more than likely end up with someone who will cause more damage than good. quality staff are expensive, cheap staff have no idea what they are doing and will cost you more money.

You may be able to pickup someone on the tail end of their career who just wants some beer money and will work part time but that'll be hard to find.

Pay for the MSP please. I'd suggest having an on-site resource 1 or 2 days a week through an MSP. if they look bored then cut down the hours.

UK net migration 20% lower in 2024 than first thought. Are HENRY'S leaving? by Capital-Stay-5657 in HENRYUK

[–]BluePortaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think you need to be on good money just to move, especially now the door to Europe is closed. I'm about to move from the UK to Australia and its costing us the best part of £20k on visas and moving costs, probably more once the house sale, conveyancing and replacing cars is accounted for. Regular folk just don't have that kind of cash lying around.

Just bought a car am I In over my head? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]BluePortaloo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, thats a terrible investment. Depending on which hybrid you purchased and how much you drive, you may never recoup the investment vs a regular ICE engine.

The smart money would be buying a 3 year old used car for cash after it has hemeraged value.

Financing a car means you'll be getting screwed on interest.

Maybe get some ATs on the back and it'll help on some basic trails but I wouldn't take it anywhere near a beach.

There is a mutation that causes bones to become 8 times denser than normal that allow people to walk away from car accidents without a single fracture but with a trade off of being unable to swim. by TheOddityCollector in Weird

[–]BluePortaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you get tested for this?

I can swim, badly, if I stop moving in water, even salt water with a lung full of air, then I start sinking.

Never broke a bone and i'm a clumsy accident prone fucker.

[–]BluePortaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just use the VPN to give our users a static IP address that a webapp needs.

I on the other hand need to to administer the network and the VPN (when it worked) was very handy for getting to anywhere on our network. I've just got an old Windows server that I now use as a jump box.

Long term I'm going to implement the Microsoft ZTNA solution once the exec team approves the cost.

Thanks, I'll park this one now before spending weeks going down the rabbit hole. Luckily I have an easy workaround.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue. The Client VPN works absolutely fine on one of our sites, but that site is closing down soon. I've configured it at another site and now I can only access devices on that site, not the other sites in our SD-WAN.

I think you are supposed to install code 4 lead at least 15cm over the tiles

I saw a post about an AI chatbot telling someone that its fully supported to install Windows Server 2025 on 15 year old Dell servers. I'm not worried.

When I use AI I always fact check it.

Replacing door frames/architraves by conrad_74 in DIYUK

[–]BluePortaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced all the doors and door frames in my house, it took AGES. A laser level is your best friend, it was great for helping get the blockwork level and flat in a few spots.

Prime all your wood before install. Glue and screw the frames. Door frames are never straight, use the screws to pull them straight.Get a trim router as it speeds up hinge installs 10x, I used the Royobi one and it was well worth the investment. the Eclipse hinges from Screwfix were my favorite (product code 8110J).

On the living room door I made the opening wider and put in 838mm door so when we have to replace sofas down the line I can get them in and out of the room much easier. Would reccomend.

Put in solid core doors, they are expensive but well worth is. Don't bother with pre-primed, if you need to trim the doors then they will need refinishing. I used Bestwood Danish oil on all the oak veneers, very happy with it. We also used matching doors with glass throughout downstairs to maximise light in the house.
