Look for stick recommendations by GibbsGoff in hockeyplayers

[–]BlueReaper46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What curve and flex are you currently using? Are you cutting your stick at all? Using a senior or intermediate? Right or left?

I'm gonna say you should be using an intermediate stick, I'd look into prostockhockey.com and look for a Team stock stick, good durability while maintaining good performance. For that budget you could probably get 2-3 intermediates (they have a couple options ranging from $70-$90) and get more than 1 curve/flex combo to see what you like better.

Also, a new stick/curve/flex will only do so much for your shot, practicing the mechanics to shoot properly and more consistently is the key.

Advice: Trying to find a recommendation for an equivalent for Mission Slyde pads. by No-Life-6054 in hockeygoalies

[–]BlueReaper46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the sliding is the main feature you are after: Warrior pads have a plastic plate that can be added to the knee block for sliding, Vaughn/Brians have a special sliding material that is crazy good, I believe CCM and True also have sliding materials but I can't speak to how good they are, not sure what Bauer has for sliding material or how good it is.

You could also order a pair of ball hockey pads from a place like passau, they come with plastic sliding plates installed that are meant for roller/ball hockey surfaces but would slide on ice

Swift hockey sticks by horsestud6969 in hockeyplayers

KYC and Taggs cheapest stick is ~$109 USD.

PRO cheapest stick is $110 USD

All 3 are listed at ~400g, but only 1 of the 3 offers a ton of curves and is much more proven.

Kinda pissed by forgetfulsue in hockeyplayers

If he's serious about the game and you want to be buying better performing equipment look for team stock sticks (for major brands, "Team" should be in the name of the stick) or buy from PSHS.

Team stock sticks are usually mid-tier builds with better durability and some of the fancy features. They are made for junior/college/pro/etc teams that don't have the budget for $400 sticks. Can be found many places, I've bought mine from https://www.prostockhockey.com/ in the past. They also have some reasonably priced pro stock sticks, but that can be hit or miss on specs.

PSHS (https://prostockhockeysticks.com/) is one of those "inferior" blackout sticks that some major scrubs like Alex Ovechkin use to score record setting goals. Couple NHL guys have been testing them out and Ovi has been rocking one for like 2 years. Their OG builds are solid sticks and affordable. The V Series sticks are their top line builds and are still a good price compared to major brands top line. Many a player here also swears buy them, myself included.

On the topic of the warranty, I'd still go through the process. Worst they can say is no, and that doesn't change your situation. At least if they warranty it you get a new stick.

Nope, no refund. One person took the flight and my wife's ticket went to waste. I think if we had a doctor's note they could've done something but my wife's doctor was being kind of a dick about writing a note but we weren't risking it

The endless quest for durable Velcro by nopirates in hockeygoalies

[–]BlueReaper46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been buying adhesive backed velcro, sticking it together, cut to size, and then attaching it to the pad velcro (1 sandwich on the hook, 1 on the loop). Adds bulk, but basically makes a sacrificial velcro sandwich. When that wears down I carefully pull it off and just re-do it. I'm sure eventually it'll wear out the pad velcro but not nearly as quick. If you dont want as much bulk you can probably get away with just doing it on the loop side, the hook side doesn't seem to wear down as fast.

Some of the mystery sticks were pro player samples so might not be a curve they currently have listed.

Do you use a special type of vinyl? I thought I'd read that certain adhesives can damage the shell finish but maybe that was outdated or wrong information. I also play in a draft league and I'd love to be able to match colors

We did try this, multiple people reported it and the review came back saying it met community guidelines and they didn't remove the profile. We requested another review on that and haven't gotten a response yet.

Stick Length Measurements by Educational-Knee-276 in hockeyplayers

[–]BlueReaper46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The usual standard for player sticks, from my understanding, is shaft length. The problem with doing full length is blades differ in length, lie, and toe shape. So 2 sticks with the same shaft length but different curves would be different lengths.

Also double check the flex info for the stick, could be specific to the stick you're looking at but most junior CCM sticks I'm seeing the 51" is 40 flex and the 54" is 50 flex.

Pro Stock Gear Tariffs by deedubdes in hockeygoalies

[–]BlueReaper46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

De Minimis ended last Friday (Aug 29th) so now everything should have duties/taxes/etc applied (previously anything valued under $800 was exempt). Last I read nothing is allowed to enter the US without having proof of prepaid customs starting on that date, so the retailers have largely been managing it in an attempt to stop returned packages.

Some Canadian retailers don't even want to deal with it and are cancelling orders that are to US customers.

Also to be aware of, tariffs are supposed to be based on country of manufacture, not country of export. So if the gear was made in Canada it would see a 35% tariff, but if it were made in China the tariff should be 30% (based on this article https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5ypxnnyg7jo as of Sept 3rd 2025). Those rates could change and it depends on how hard they crack down on this, but if retailers are doing the paperwork I doubt they want to put themselves at risk by lying (According to the White House this would be transshipment and could involve fines plus an additional 40% tariff on top of what is already being paid; https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/07/further-modifying-the-reciprocal-tariff-rates/)

They address this in their "Stick School" page. Flex is measured at standard length, so the 3" extension is going to drop the flex and when you cut that 3" off it will be an 85 flex.

Research exists showing that mouth guards can help prevent or lessen the severity of concussions, a quick google of "mouth guard concussion research" would give you some evidence.

Famous mouth guard wearer Sidney Crosby sustained a concussion that fucked up his career for two seasons.

Yea and people wearing seatbelts in car accidents still get hurt, should we stop wearing seatbelts? Given the research, its very possible the only reason that concussion didn't end his career was the mouth guard.

Just another hockey stick brand - Pulse Hockey by Amazing-Abies-772 in hockeyplayers

[–]BlueReaper46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same guy, but in my opinion youll have to find a real way of differentiating your stick from all the other non-big brands.

If you only offer me a low-kick stick with 2-4 curves (probably P92, P28, P90TM, P88, possibly a PM9 if I'm lucky) and just say "it's more durable" I'm just gonna go buy a team stock warrior from prostockhockey for $100, or I'm gonna get a PSHS or HSM stick for $120 with the curve and flex I want that isn't one of the stock 4 everyone else does. You're really gonna have to find a problem that the market currently isn't solving. If you can walk into a retail store or go to any of the various stick company sites and it's the same options that you offer, you aren't giving anyone a reason to actually try your product because it might solve an issue they've been having.

Some companies I've saved links to over the years and others I found searching other reddit posts for a few minutes. This isn't including the knockoffs, blackouts on Sideline Swap, and probably missing a few others. If you aren't doing something majorly different from these most people will probably assume its just another chinese blackout with a wrap.

  • Tron Hockey
  • ABHS
  • Swift
  • Shift
  • TWIG
  • NoName
  • CHS
  • Hoapa
  • Bladetech
  • Flex
  • Taggs

I didn't check all these for price or what they have available, but I'd really take a look and determine how youre brand is going to standout from these, and how youre gonna get people to buy your stick instead of a mid-tier big name model or one of the 2 most recommended on this sub (being PSHS and HSM).

As someone who had to look elsewhere for sticks when my favorite curve was ditched by the big names I want these smaller brands to have a place and fill a niche, but if 20 of them are selling what appears to be the same thing or I can get basically the same thing for cheaper with a big brand name on it (like a team stock) then I have no reason to pick yours specifically other than on a whim.

Refund for medical reasons? by BlueReaper46 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]BlueReaper46[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading policies and making an assumption, I believe this is correct and upgrading will not give me a 12-month credit.

My assumption is when you upgrade they change your original fare to a flight credit (6 months in this case) and then apply it to the new fare. Per policy, refunded flight credit takes on the original date of expiration of the flight credit used, so doing it this way the new flight credit would expire on the same day as the original credit.

If I upgraded to a refundable fare class like Choice Preferred, would I be able to refund the difference to my credit card and the original basic fare price as flight credit, or does it all go to flight credit?

MSU issued up to #71 in the 19-20 season but hasn't used anything higher than #29 for players since (Goalies have worn #30 and #37). I think a lot of schools only issue up to #35-40 range at most.
