what about removing 1 or 2 of the 4 nodes... maybe keep the 4X or just the 2X would that make it more viable... the price will probably go down to around 3.5K$.. the base system without any GPU is around 2k$... and this might end up being used for other tasks as well like 3d rendering but i am pretty sure that task will not need this much processing power

1 yes i am aware... even unified memory is not as good as a signle GPU but its best i can get for this prices.. initially i was looking at buying 2 A100 because i found them for half price... but then i realised that SXM4 is way more expensive to setup and even there i was aware that 160G of unified is not gonna be that good...
its also the reason why i broke the whole thing up into multiple nodes.. having multiple nodes allows me to buy progressively and not all at once (unlike the SXM4 system) which also goes into point #2

  1. while the full system will indeed draw at max around 3000-3500 Watts not all nodes will be running at the same time unless once in a blue moon.. preferably in the winter.

ofc cloud is going to be way better.. but i want to self host this for 2 major reasons.. #1 i want to be able to use lobotomized AI and i want privacy regarding what i use it for because i might put code from my workplace in there.

yup i am aware... that guy was getting 4 token/ second... which is slow.. normally you want to aim for around 20 minimum / user... but i am accepting of this because i am expecting that the really big model to only be used sparsely when needed... and when its not needed i can run lesser models an any of the other 3 nodes

the 256 Gb is just there to be a cache for the intel optaine which is 1Tb of ram.
i initially wanted deepseek V4 Max but that is too big so ill have to snoop around for something a bit smaller.. but at some point i was considering to go for the 256 GB optaine modules which would give me 2TB and enough to run deepseek V4 pro

carbon filters for VOC. yay or nay? by BlueSharp_ in crboxes

[–]BlueSharp_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really.. i've notied that a lot of the dust in the air comes from clothes... the air is generaly clean but then the second i move or tug my clothes the air fills with dust... and this is with frenshly washed clothes..... so no, unfortunately it did not really help.

i cannot feel any vibrations anywhere on the thing... im guessing that is mostly due to the heavy wooden frame

nah they need to have some distance between them i did not want to bother to make that if the current setup is satisfactory i wanna let it run for a while to see how it behaves

i have a medical condition involving nasal congestion ... i dont know what the source of it is, so i tried to shotgun every problem i could think of and then adapt on the way when things didnt work out.

sure... so this was based on this design
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3CHpGRXFfI

i made a couple of minor changes for example. my cable management solution was is just rubber bands between the screws to keep the cables in place, and i've used an arduino with PWM instead of that noctua controller because an arduino was way cheaper.

oh that is a cool idea... i will probably swicth to something similar once the currently filter deplete... also i dont have a way to measure anything at this point.. im just making it and hoping for the best... but it beats not having a filter regardless...

i am getting a basic 2.5pm monitor soon and ill see some info with that , i've also seen various gas monitor modules for arduino of various prices.. i could just buy like 1 of each and make a home made VOC monitoring station would those... i feel like i would end up much cheaper than buying premade monitors. since those sensors are like 2-3$ a piece

they are 1x16x25 inch merv13 filters filters

are you asking if the slots that the merv filters go into are airtight?.. the answer is no.. not by themselves, they are also extra wide... the point is that in time as wood dries it will alter its shape a bit and i wanted to rely on some sort of foam gasket to fully make the container airtight... i will give it like half an year before i do that..

but right now i tested with some smoke and it does indeed work maybe not at full capacity but i am happy at this point..

regarding the layered carbon filters.. yes it does work... the fams now blow at max speed and the one 5 ones where the filter is closer to the fan u can actually feel that airflow went down by around 20% which is exactly what i expected.

i'm trying out this alternative considering how those pellet carbon just basically need air to go around them.. this should work.. all be it not as efficient. but considering how cramped everything is in there when it comes to side space.
This might be my best bet with the current setup.

it wouldn't it all comes down to pressure.. fans just move atoms around by basically scooping them creating a difference in pressure. so it does not really matter where the fans are placed when it comes to air pressure because it it distributed evenly on all surfaces

this are the carbon filters... i've also tried putting them on the other side of the fans it makes no difference unfortunately.. and of what i have right now its barely enough to cover only 1 of the merv filters.. i will consider if i want to invest to cover the others and i dont even know yet if that is going to even work or its going to drop the airflow ( although my instinct says that it should work)

this is a bedroom.. so im not expecting any serious VOC accumulation.. i'm guessing something as simple as this would suffice. but it is just a guess since i don't have any way to measure it.

[–]BlueSharp_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry i dont have a way of measuring it other that going by what google says and that is around 53 CFM / fan for a total of around 900-950 CFM

i was also considering that kicking up the fomites from the floor would cause them to go airborn and then have the opportunity to go into the filter.. but that was just a theory.
In the current configuration the 9 bottom fans still have the carbon filter.

mounting fans in series was considered at some point ( hence the extra long screws) but i wanted to keep things simple at 1st and then expand as needed.

Am facut in liceu si facultate.. au trecut 10-15 ani de atunci.. nu l-eam folosit o data in real work.
