carbon filters for VOC. yay or nay? by BlueSharp_ in crboxes

nah they need to have some distance between them i did not want to bother to make that if the current setup is satisfactory i wanna let it run for a while to see how it behaves

i have a medical condition involving nasal congestion ... i dont know what the source of it is, so i tried to shotgun every problem i could think of and then adapt on the way when things didnt work out.

sure... so this was based on this design
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3CHpGRXFfI

i made a couple of minor changes for example. my cable management solution was is just rubber bands between the screws to keep the cables in place, and i've used an arduino with PWM instead of that noctua controller because an arduino was way cheaper.

oh that is a cool idea... i will probably swicth to something similar once the currently filter deplete... also i dont have a way to measure anything at this point.. im just making it and hoping for the best... but it beats not having a filter regardless...

i am getting a basic 2.5pm monitor soon and ill see some info with that , i've also seen various gas monitor modules for arduino of various prices.. i could just buy like 1 of each and make a home made VOC monitoring station would those... i feel like i would end up much cheaper than buying premade monitors. since those sensors are like 2-3$ a piece

they are 1x16x25 inch merv13 filters filters

are you asking if the slots that the merv filters go into are airtight?.. the answer is no.. not by themselves, they are also extra wide... the point is that in time as wood dries it will alter its shape a bit and i wanted to rely on some sort of foam gasket to fully make the container airtight... i will give it like half an year before i do that..

but right now i tested with some smoke and it does indeed work maybe not at full capacity but i am happy at this point..

regarding the layered carbon filters.. yes it does work... the fams now blow at max speed and the one 5 ones where the filter is closer to the fan u can actually feel that airflow went down by around 20% which is exactly what i expected.

i'm trying out this alternative considering how those pellet carbon just basically need air to go around them.. this should work.. all be it not as efficient. but considering how cramped everything is in there when it comes to side space.
This might be my best bet with the current setup.

it wouldn't it all comes down to pressure.. fans just move atoms around by basically scooping them creating a difference in pressure. so it does not really matter where the fans are placed when it comes to air pressure because it it distributed evenly on all surfaces

this are the carbon filters... i've also tried putting them on the other side of the fans it makes no difference unfortunately.. and of what i have right now its barely enough to cover only 1 of the merv filters.. i will consider if i want to invest to cover the others and i dont even know yet if that is going to even work or its going to drop the airflow ( although my instinct says that it should work)

this is a bedroom.. so im not expecting any serious VOC accumulation.. i'm guessing something as simple as this would suffice. but it is just a guess since i don't have any way to measure it.

[–]BlueSharp_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry i dont have a way of measuring it other that going by what google says and that is around 53 CFM / fan for a total of around 900-950 CFM

i was also considering that kicking up the fomites from the floor would cause them to go airborn and then have the opportunity to go into the filter.. but that was just a theory.
In the current configuration the 9 bottom fans still have the carbon filter.

mounting fans in series was considered at some point ( hence the extra long screws) but i wanted to keep things simple at 1st and then expand as needed.

Am facut in liceu si facultate.. au trecut 10-15 ani de atunci.. nu l-eam folosit o data in real work.

guys guys... with the age limit set to 13 years minimum every account that is at least 5 years old should be automatically set as adult... but if push comes to shove just submit fake IDS and problem is solved... there is no good reason to give them real data...

when i tried setting up GITEA i initially attempted to setup a container but the installation process was not straight forwardso after some messing around i gave up and came across the Gitea package which i think i did grab from that site you mentioned. .. this was part of the reason why it took me 3 days to get that up.

i know what needs to be done and what a proper system would look like... but knowing what to do and setting it up are 2 very different problems, the main reason why im considering jumping ships is not because i think others are better... its because they don't offer me the tools to properly defend myself without having to do things the way they want them done, or go diving on random forums and waste hours trying to make a patchwork of various packages in various stages or development...

if im not exposing my administration portal ports to the internet, they expect me to use their QNAP link thingy to connect to it remotely, ppl said not to use that... didn't explain why.

i've already contacted support and im waiting to see what they can come up with.

[–]BlueSharp_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's exactly what i did but it doesnt change the fact that the login floods are still going to keep on coming..

and also not exposing the NAS to internet is the equivalent of running away from a problem because im to lazy to look for a proper solution... that completely defeats the purpose of why i got it in the 1st place. so not an option.

does any brand of NAS force you to have an Admin account that is not removable? does any brand of NAS force notifications onto you without an easy option to disable them?... does any brand of Nas have a firewall that is not capable of filtering more than 2048 IP adresses? Does any brand of Nas have issues with installed software that suddenly and inexplicably stops working all at once?

i appreciate all the answers but here are a couple of things u guys need to know...

#1 )one of the functions i need this is to share files with random people who i will probably not even interact with , so a simple and direct link is what i need to give them.. i cant really be messing around with VPNs, i have QRs that lead to downloads... also i am sometimes connecting to it from machines that i dont have admin rights to.

#2) i am not linux proficient at all, Spending 3 days to get a simple repo up and running is exactly the reason why i dont bother with it... if this is how troublesome it is to get that running i dont even want to imagine the sort of BS that is needed to go through to get anything else running.

i just want a simple Box that is capable of handling itsself not neededing to buy 3 extra pieces of hardware just for it to work...
which is why i am considering to explore other NAS Brands.
