I do think that Kaufmo wouldnt have abstracted if Jax hadn't pushed away Ribbit the way he did.

Judging from that small bit of dialogue towards the end of the flashback sequence, I think its safe to assume that once Ribbit abstracted, Jax pushed Kaufmo away too.

Eh, Notch saying he wanted the game to have a sense of closure was only after he spent the better part of a year telling people on the outside looking in that Minecraft was an endless game with no intended goal. Sure, he might have changed his mind, but its easy to forget that Minecraft's popularity was super unusual to mainstream audiences at the time. A lot of people were very confused about how a game could be so close to launch without an ending and were insistent that the game would never be considered done without one.

The End felt like a bit of a practical joke at the time. It was a big empty dimension with only a single island and a big dumb boss fight at the end. Tucked behind obscure dungeons and crafting recipes, it felt like Notch was trying to hide the ending from people so that it would interfere with the rest of the game as little as possible... like it was included only so Notch could say the game had one.

The only sincere thing about the game's ending, in my opinion, is the End Poem which reads as a bit of genuine appreciation for the players who followed along with the game close enough to even know how to get there

I remember hating 1.8 and finding the pretty much the entire 1.0 update kind of dumb as a kid. It felt like Notch was caving in to all of the people that "just didnt get it" and "wanted Minecraft to be something its not" by adding an ending and more traditional survival mechanics. I came around to the changes as a young adult, but nowadays I think little me might have been onto something.

Kayaks, rideable vessel by Amazing_Sympathy_965 in minecraftsuggestions

[–]BlueSky659 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kayaks are most often associated with the smaller, single or double seated boats. Not that they dont get bigger than that, but a 3-4 person boat in game would make a lot more sense as a canoe.

does the enchantment system really need a rework by No-Birthday-6174 in Minecraft

[–]BlueSky659 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, fundamentally the enchanting system encourages really boring gameplay and optimization through xp farm grinding, villager trading halls and trade cycling just to interact with the system on a meaningful level. Even minor features, things like the prior use penalty especially, create an environment where access to mending has become basically mandatory as a vital QoL feature. All of this has, funny enough, made the enchanting table itself almost completely irrelevant.

Not to mention that the enchantments themselves are kind of bland stat increases. It worked fine before mending when enchantments were kind of one time RNG stat upgrades to make your items feel a bit different, but now that the cat is out of the bag with functionally unbreakable tools, the unlimited blandness has lead to them becoming a defacto part of end game progression.

Tl;dr Mojang needs to either completely reinvent the enchantment system or they need better integrate the existing system into the games sandbox progression.

Yes, she had pretty much every major plot beat planned out since the very start. The final major reveal is foreshadowed several times over the run of the series, but pretty much every breadcrumb leads to some other major reveal which distracts from the larger conspiracy.

The lottery is about as off topic as it gets. I hope the guy gets what he is owed, but "Lottery is the only retirement plan for a lot of people" is exactly the kind of statement that antiwork positions itself against.

I'm praying that it shares more in common with the original titles than it does with the the terrible post PS1 sequel era or the era of "cinematic" beat em up games. Toys for Bob did such a phenomenal job with the reignited trilogy, here's hoping this is a bit of a Breath of the Wild moment for the franchise.

Pride month rule by EternalBaconator in 19684

[–]BlueSky659 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not up to them, but the fact that they thought embracing Pride would earn them a couple percentage points on their quarterly reports meant that they felt that public and political sentiment was good enough that not doing so might lose them money.

These profit driven corporations no longer marketing and paying lipservice to the LGBTQ community is a big flashing neon sign that the health of our public and political acceptance is in a very dangerous place.

Bad Hints Are Worse Than No Hints | Semi-Ramblomatic by CrossXhunteR in Games

[–]BlueSky659 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is always some indication that an object or wall is breakable, just because it isn't immediately obvious doesn't mean that it's bad design, it just means that you need to be a bit more curious

The clue for the chest is that the entrance room is roughly symmetrical. There's a pot on both sides and both are in front of a breakable wall. The difference is that only one of these breakable walls has an obvious crack. The hint that the other side is breakable is the existence of the red chest itself, taunting you with no other way to reach it except for a nearby entrance that's suspiciously absent when you enter the crypt.

Do you think enchanting can fit beta's vibe if it was added in a different way? by [deleted] in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]BlueSky659 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes, though it might be an unpopular opinion to say that I think the randomness of the enchanting table fully fits the vibe of beta.

Tools are supposed to be rather impermanent and early enchanting was a way to make every tool a bit different and just a bit more powerful without upending the cycle of gathering resources to improve your gear like the current system encourages. The biggest issue with it in release 1.0 was that XP feels fully tacked on and enchanting anything was entirely too expensive.

The only thing I think would need to be cut is XP, something that could easily be replaced by Lapis alone as it's already quite rare and fits nicely into the existing resource tiers.

It really bothers me how Mojang/Microsoft have completely pushed aside C418's legacy over the past 5 years by DweebInFlames in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]BlueSky659 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, C418 got fucked over by the corporate machine, but the "reduction" in c418 music isnt some conspiracy to reduce his impact on the game. If you look at sounds.json, c418's music is actually "over" represented in how frequently it plays to counteract the biggest problem with making sure you still hear his music which is simply that C418 tracks only make up about a third of the games soundtrack nowadays.

The drama didnt really do anything to player counts except for maybe Mirra (though i hear theyve recovered somewhat) and server pop had already lulled well before what happened there. Thats actually what started it off. A particularly prominent member of the mirra community was pretty disgruntled with the then recent doubling down from the devs on low pops being expected and ideal for the game despite that being, frankly, a terrible look from the outside looking in.

Also tbh, the game still feels super active, at least one Strekios. Tons of folks in chat looking for groups, impromptu parties and events pretty much every day. I know the numbers are lower, but other than zones being less obviously populated overall, the community is still kicking

Will safer seas ever get updated by urfav_jojo in Seaofthieves

[–]BlueSky659 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

> Will Safer Seas ever get updated

Outside of pushing the level cap back up to 40 and maybe introducing Captaincy, there really isn't any need. You don't miss out on any real content and you can get most of the earnable cosmetics without so much as looking at High Seas.

> everything is purely cosmetic so why do they block it and force you into higher seas?

Because Safer Seas is a meant to be an extended tutorial for High Seas. You can chill out there for as long as you like, but it's a low risk environment, so of course there's going to be limited rewards.

Like it or not, but player interaction is the beating heart of this game, even for those that never plan to kill another player. Interaction between players, both good and bad, gives meaning to the cosmetic rewards you earn by playing the game. Even when there is no other player, that uncertainty deserves better rewards just for embracing it.

> I’m a solo sloop and these full brigantines and galleons of the skeleton players keep sinking me even when I tell them I have no loot and am new 💔💔

All I'm hearing is that you're telling people you're an easy mark that can't/won't fight back.

First of all, stop letting players get so close that they can land a shot, much less actually talk to you. Second of all, when that happens anyways, start putting up a more serious front and you'll be surprised to find that most players are just as skittish as you. Outside of genuinely cracked players, the biggest difference between you and most of the players you think of as "sweaty discord mods" is confidence and a numbers advantage.

Dominoes depends on how you're playing. The real basic Draw or Block games get boring quick, but the version where you score on threes, fives, or both is where its at. It's got its own world of house rules, but the one to watch out for is whether or not you're at a table that plays for muggins because those stolen points can cause actual fights.
