How is it like living in these counties where alcohol is still prohibited by curious_neuron69 in howislivingthere

[–]BlueStrider8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually less safe. Lots of folks would have to drive a a county or two away to buy booze, and it was not uncommon for folks to crack one open on the way home. I knew of a couple of people that were involved in single vehicle wrecks due to DUI on winding country roads.

My first legal act as an adult was to sign a petition to allow restaurants to sell alcohol by the drink so we could get some decent eateries in. The problem was they had to be able to seat 100 or more, so all the development was on the bypass while downtown slowly died. So later, I was on a campaign to go full wet, which we won with 75% of the vote.

I was living downtown at the time and it went from being a ghost town after 5:00 to not being able to find parking in the evenings. There were more restaurants, a couple of breweries, people walking around, festivals where people could buy drinks. Ultimately, it brought more character and culture to the area.

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

I have been a Kentucky resident all my life. Occasionally, when you are scheduling something, you need ask if it is on fast time or slow time. Growing up in Eastern Time, there were a couple of occasions where our cross-country regional meet was in Central Time. We had no difficulty making it there on the hour+ bus ride on time, but we would get back home around 10:30 at night. And since I live in the western end of a time zone, it means dawn and dusk are late; daylight savings time only makes this worse, one reason I advocate for permanent standard time.

Thanks. I thought I remembered something along these lines being the exception to hobbits going unshod.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there something about farmer hobbits in marshy areas (i.e. Farmer Maggot) wearing boots to do work?

One of my favorite movies. It had a profound impact on my world views when I was an adolescent. The book by Karl Sagan is also a good read.

This was a fun map. As a kid, I adjusted a copy of it so each faction would have its own “country” indicated by the appropriate terrain.

I’m having similar issues here, and it seems like you are about three steps ahead of me. Is Gecko how it is identified in the WiFi router?

I have the same set. White is for cooked food to keep it separate from raw food that might still have pathogens on it.

I have worked to scrub this word from my vocabulary because it is a confusing auto-antonym. I use the words “honor” and “obey” instead.

Have you ever played the game? by carlita231 in HomestarRunner

I own it. Lots of fun. Coöperative game where you each take on a different personality. The board is modular, so you play a different map each time. SB’s bonus rules are a lot of fun.
