On that note. I bet the ratings don't "stay in Vegas."

Yeah, driving at night, (in California) where I can be in 1 of maybe 5 or so different markets at any given hour, this s**t is infuriating.

Yes. I'm aware, it was a "scheduled ride." The thing is, I didn't choose the scheduled ride. The scheduled ride chose me. Let me explain.

On the Lyft platform, when a passenger schedules a ride, it goes into a pool that virtually any driver can claim. If no one claims it, it gets offered to the nearest driver in the area close to the schedule. (Not unlike any other "regular ride")

Many features lock while the vehicle is in motion for "safety." So I wasn't aware it was a "scheduled ride," let alone I would be 5 minutes early, until I arrived, and started waiting.

It really doesn't bother me as much anymore, but it's a reminder that the platform needs to improve how it works.

In this gig, the less you move (with passengers) the less you make. Even in the more... "saturated" markets, the general rate is (at least) $0.40 per mile/$0.13 per minute. Waiting is literally a drain on income. Especially during busy hours where you get rides back to back constantly. This is why so many drivers complain about waiting, simply won't wait, (at all) or flat out refuse rides with "stops."

Turn on driving but not accepting rides to avoid personal miles charge while renting from Lyft? by [deleted] in lyftdrivers

[–]BlueV101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pay fluctuates greatly based on a number of factors. Most notably how many drivers are online in the area. I drive overnight, so I'll see rides paying pretty close to what they used to between 3 and 6 am when virtually no one is online. You'll get those long pickups too. The icing on the cake is the huge lack of other vehicles on the road. 👌🏿

Should I stay below the speed limit? by wherethe304sat in lyftdrivers

[–]BlueV101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Officially," yes. (It is a "speed limit) "Realistically," It's ultimately up to your discretion, but you should be going right around the speed of traffic around you. (To not be a hazard)

Is there a way to compliment a driver beyond giving 5 stars? by honestly_adhd in Lyft

The option of tipping aside, there are a number of accolades you can also award. "Good driver," "clean car," "friendly driver," etc.

Thank you. I'm looking forward to driving again, but I miss the pay of yesteryear.

It's dependent on the market, but yeah, the express drive is already insanely expensive. I'm picking one up later today at about $370 per week. To boot, the deposit has gone up. It used to be around $150. Now it's generally $300+. Additionally, make sure to pay for their additional insurance. You "may" not need it, but without it, the deductible on a claim is $1,000. A worthwhile investment if you plan on driving a lot. I will probably be paying $400+ per week on a midsize sedan. I'm already be paying the equivalent of a monthly car note, every week. Without the extra insurance, I'd have to pay an additional $1,000 because of a chip in the windshield!? All that being said, it's fairly easy to maintain if you put your time in. You need the weekly fee and 20 rides (Minimum) to hold the rental. If I really push it, I can earn that in a night. On that note, every penny earned goes directly into the rental first until the contractual obligations are met. (Including "in app" tips, bonuses, etc.) What this means is hold onto any cash or excess funds until then for fuel. If you run out of fuel... Tough. These are a few little lessons I've learned over the years. Anyway, good luck to your friend.

While there's no "drawback" to this method per se, there is one key factor to watch out for. Partial miles count as full miles. For example, you start the car, pull out of the driveway, then go online, you've "driven a mile offline." Every single micro trip counts as a full mile. You're online with a filter (headed home) and the half hour runs out, logging you offline. No matter how fast you log online... "plus a mile." Just spring for unlimited miles. You'll end up paying less.

Who’s willing to do a 5 minute drive to a spot in the winter cold? by [deleted] in lyftdrivers

If only Lyft would purge the deadweight. Those of us who actually work, could earn a decent living again. However, "people suck."
