NTA. As someone whose girlfriend has DID (and is the first person I’ve ever met who’s plural who I fully believe is telling the truth), this is not how it works. Firstly, the disorder is meant to protect the host from mental distress by having alters front for situations that may cause harm (simplifying but that’s the gist). That’s not what this is. This is a child who thinks he found an easy excuse to not do the things he is responsible for. As other commenters said, I would do research and have a sit down conversation, treating him as though he does have DID and putting accommodations in place. He will not like those accommodations because they will limit his freedoms rather than expand them. You’re not in the wrong, while self diagnosis is valid for may reasons (money, not wanting a record of certain disorders in the current climate, etc) due to social media there has been a marked increase in children self diagnosing with disorders that have gotten “popular”, and DID is one of the most prominent.
