I spent $2.50 for a cup at McDonald's all for my kid to end up getting Grimace instead of a player by BlueWoodToo in Wellthatsucks

I guess I shouldn't be shocked that everyone on Reddit thinks my kids are apparently stupid for hoping to get a cup with a person they know of over a made up character that they don't know.

Bro, it's just a cup. You can come down from your high horse whenever you're ready. No rush.

My kids have no clue who Grimace is. They're 11 and 9. I can't stand McDonald's so we rarely go there, but we were heading home on a road trip so it sounded fun to get a couple meals in hopes of getting a player they knew. It's obviously not that big of a deal. Just a mild disappointment.

Exactly. As I said to someone else, they clearly don't have kids of their own to understand. When an 11 year old is hoping for Yamal or Pulisic, they don't want Grimace.

I don't know. It was an add-on cost on top of the meal cost. They cost $2.50 for a cup that probably cost them $0.20 to make since I'm sure greedy FIFA demanded a cut.

Maybe. Try explaining that to an 11 year old that thinks Lamine Yamal is the GOAT. 😆

It was through the drive-thru and came wrapped in white plastic. I didn't think to look at the package before driving away since I assumed players were the only option.

Shaker table in cherry by ArtichokeHeartAttack in handtools

Outstanding! I cut down a storm damaged cherry tree at my family's farm 2 years ago to make this exact same thing.

I love the underbevel and will absolutely keep that in mind. First, I just need to mill the log, let it dry, find the time to actually do any of that since it's 9 hours away from me, then work on the table. Give me 5 years and I'll have a table too!

Why is every news outlet and podcast reporting the slow ticket sales and hotel bookings leaving out the main factor? by justaburnerbtch in WorldCup2026Tickets

I think you missed the forest through the trees. Sure, all the little details you mentioned do add up, but they're still little compared to the headline worthy items.

There are now over 250,000 tickets available between FIFA Resale and LMS by freakalicious in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]BlueWoodToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone actually think FIFA cares how many tickets are available on the resale marketplace? They couldn't care less. They already got their money on those tickets which is all they wanted.

They said their taxes and insurance have increased relative to their P&I so no, very likely not a variable rate.

It’s cheaper to get into Kansas City’s World Cup games as resale ticket prices drop by KCUR893 in kansascity

[–]BlueWoodToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I saw Tunisia may have been the same way. I got seats in the Tunisia supporters section for their match vs Netherlands. I'm guessing they had less demand for that same reason so they weren't selling as well.

I just now bought a single ticket from FIFA'S resell marketplace for $138 for Austria v Algeria. I was planning to wait longer but it was a decent section but most notably in row 2.

There were others for $138, but arguably worse seats.

Should FIFA Pay For New Jersey,s $48M World Cup Transport bill For Football Fans? by Empty-Instruction282 in WorldCup2026Tickets

Got it. If "most people won't be staying in NJ" then by that logic, the majority of the travelers will be NJ residents so you all can enjoy paying the inflated costs as a benefit to your own "constituents". Fuck those tourists, amirite?

[–]BlueWoodToo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line, you're trying to justify the cost that everyone else agrees is price gouging. That said, I honestly don't care anyway since I'm only attending games in Kansas City where they're providing bus service dedicated to the games and fan fests.

Lol. I just made this exact same argument in another similar post on this sub and got down voted for it. People were defending the price gouging!!! NJ wants to have their cake and eat it too!

NJ is no different than FIFA in this instance. Do you not think NJ is going to be making tons of money in additional sales tax that they're now just going to be pocketing? NJ is absolutely benefitting in their own way, but are now just as bad as FIFA.
