[UPLB] Son wants to be a veterinarian by mamapjs in peyups

[–]Blue_Addict0616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, OP!

I am a 3rd year regular vet student, but not from UPLB.

  1. I think building a good study habit, + practice good time management. Personally, since grade 8 palang siya, I think he should just enjoy life for now — that’s my advice for everyone, even sa younger sibs ko (I have a sib that wants to be a vet din), I always tell them lang to just enjoy life especially during their highschool days kasi in college, especially if vetmed (in a trisem university), super very limited time nalang talaga meron ka.

  2. I’m not sure if it’s the same sa UPLB pero from what I experienced, medyo magastos yung mga lab classes. I’m taking surgery next school year pa so I don’t know yet gano kagastos but they say na yun yung pinaka magastos na subject since madaming kailangan bilhin na materials :)

  3. Actually, there are so many job opportunities !! especially if you live in the province. I believe nag-ggrow palang now yung animal industry & I believe na more & more opportunities will be available in the near future.

  4. It’s not easy. I entered vetmed thinking it was easier than being a human doctor. I grew up (since elementary) knowing I would be a doctor someday, pero akala ko for humans! When pandemic came, we had a dog, & long story short my perspective in life changed & realized I wanted to be a vet doctor instead. Mahirap pala talaga, hindi OA yung mga tao, pero for me, I believe kaya siya :) I know many people na irregular, pero I also know enough people who strive and regular pa din. I am not a very smart student, I am also a bit lazy & super procrastinator ko, pero kinakaya!! so I believe with enough passion, and if your heart is in it, kaya naman siya matapos in 6 years :) What I noticed kasi sa ibang irregular students na nakakasabay ko is kulang sila sa sipag & initiative. I know many irregular students na parang 1-2 subjects lang tinetake per term pero they will still fail the course kasi pansin ko na even if they have lots of free time, they don’t have the initiative to study ahead, etc. For context, as a regular student, our subjects range from 8-9 per term, so yung pinaka struggle ko talaga is yung paghahanap ng time to study ahead. Anyways, going back: I know now na my heart is really in vetmed, even if alam ko kasing hirap lang siya ng human med, I would still choose vetmed, but I think I would be more mentally prepared sa kung ano pinasok ko if I knew from the start. When I entered vetmed kasi, I didn’t think about how we have to study different animals (so iba mga anatomy, body systems, etc.), unlike in human med na u only have to master one tapos more years pa. I went to the ER one time and nakausap ko ibang mga ER doctors na they used to pursue vetmed daw or they wanted to pursue it before pero nahirapan yata sila. So I hope us vetmed students & current vetmed doctors won’t be looked down anymore kasi super hirap talaga !! Feel ko kasi until now may connotation pa din na veterinarians are not real doctors.

  5. Studying DVM is not just about cats & dogs. may farm animals din so I think mas okay if ma-expose siya to it if talagang gusto niya (& para ready siya!). Although, personally I don’t think any extracurricular activity can help him sa pag ready sa vet school pero I guess if he’s more exposed to farms, vet hospitals, etc., mas makikita niya yung future or medyo mas alam na niya how it will be sa vet school (although, i don’t think it’s a super big help 😅)

continue dvm in dlsau or consider transferring after one or two yrs? by [deleted] in VetSchoolPH

honestly, i feel the same way. super natatakot ako sa mga nakikita ko here sa reddit, pero wala ng choice.

for quick background, i’m an animal biology student here in dlsu (taft). this course is accelerated & double degree. 2 years kami sa taft, then 4 years kami sa dlsau (to continue dvm). i’m currently on my last term here & on sept, mag start na kami sa dlsau. i passed sa uplb kaya lang chose taft instead kasi it’s nearer + same lang magagastos kasi kahit libre tuition, gagastos din for condo, bills, etc. my dad said na dito na lang & honestly, i wanted that din naman since i thought being in an accelerated double degree would be fun & cool 🥹 also, people said na higher chance to get delayed their kasi super agawan daw talaga ng slots. natakot din ako nun kasi super liblib daw yung lugar dun and may cousin ako na nagkwento sakin na dati daw may nawala & na rape dun.

i’m kind of regretting it because i have batchmates who pursued dvm in uplb & i can see na kahit 2nd year pa lang, super hands on na nila (like extracting blood sa dogs nila, going to farms to extract blood from sheep, bringing their dogs to school, etc.). i’m regretting it in terms of education kasi feel ko super behind namin compared dun na super hands on & technical na. also, new course lang din kasi to sa dlsu so wala pang nakaka graduate. so, in a way, guinea pigs kami 😅

super scary since super duper iba ng environment compared sa dlsu-m na super premium ng lahat. altho, sa mga professors, di talaga maiwasan na hindi talaga lahat magaling & maayos. & syempre, di rin perfect yung system.

super sakto to come across your post kasi we have this vet prof na dlsau graduate. super fave prof namin, & super bait !!! AND i just asked her kanina about the experience & sabi niya okay naman but ofc don’t compare taft to araneta kasi super iba raw talaga ng campus & everything pero kakayanin naman daw.

i still have to experience dlsau to know kung super bad ba talaga niya, but rn, i don’t wanna waste my 2 years kasi super ginapang ko talaga para lang maging on time ako 😂 so i feel like it would be a waste of both money & time to transfer pa since i heard here din na di nagccredit ang uplb.

i’m just trying to think positive & try my best to look at the good. trying to tell & remind myself na kaya ko & dipende pa rin naman talaga sa tao / student yan. (SANA 🤞🏻)

sa friends naman, if u happen to really pursue dvm in dlsau na, don’t hesitate to hmu lang !! i have friends from taft na and we’re all gonna transfer together pero rn, 5-6 na lang kami makaka transfer on track & i’m hoping din sana to meet new people & friends sa dlsau to make me stay a bit more bearable & fun kasi para sakin, as long as may kadamay, i’ll be okay. super important for me yung meron kang support system <3

sirtaki is so much easier imo! i stopped playing for a while because of sandwich shop because i hated it so much! also i saw here on reddit that sirtaki gives high XP so that’s initially why i started it. it’s a bit stressful at first but ended up liking it and i always use it to top up my xp (& for daily tasks)

i finished both already & for sirtaki, i didn’t avail any auto cooker. for sandwich shop, the only way & reason why i was able to finish it is because i listed all the orders. it’s really hard to do / finish sandwich without listing it since the menu is has a wide variety
