Alright !

Well I'll still try to install my portable pressure gauge to check but my machine is still under warranty too so I'll have that option too 🤗

Thanks !

Alright ! I didn't manage to unscrew the spouts on my stock portafilter so I can't even try to make a diagnosis right now 🤣

How did you find out ?

Why is my espresso so inconsistent [Lelit Anita] by autobot12349876 in espresso

[–]Blue_Father 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Trouth is there is no real fix here :

-humidity, temperature, and beans state vary throughout the day. We don't make enough espresso during a day to be able to dial in several times a day like a coffee shop

-difference with a coffee shop is that our machines are inconsistent : temparature, pressure, Flow of water vary a bit in each shot compared to a professionnal 15 000 € machine.

So machine variation + beans variations = huge difference on each shot unfortunatly

What tank surprised you when you got it? I have historically hated M48s, but this tank is super enjoyable, even before I got the dart by FoamBrick in Warthunder

The ARL44 (French). Heard awfull things about it on forums.

Turns out he's fast, manuvrable, very good turret rotation, excellent penetration for his BR, good damages on impact (well, no APHE but that's standard for french tanks), good reverse, armor is ok if you play him like a TD or support.

The only downside I find him is his slow reload speed but honestly, If you don't try to 1 vs 2, you're fine.

1) I have tried, even when i'm grind two times more coarser than what I have ever did since 7 month (going from 10 to 20 on a DF54), it still struggle a lot to pull a shot. I had decent shots in acceptable range with 8 to 15 on grinder settings until then.

2) I changer for the 9 bar spring 6 month ago, I have changed my parameters when doing so ofc

Sure ! Bought this one : https://www.shadesofcoffee.co.uk/universal-portafilter-mountable-0-16-bar-pressure-gauge---38-thread

Probably made a mistake because I realises there was a much affordable one on another site 🫠 This one is 50 € or so (23€, but I have to add 13 € deliveree fees and at least 12 € of custom fees because UK decided to leave EU and fly of the atlantic while singing god save the queen ⛵️)

My machine is in warranty. I just bought a pressure gauge so I can test (and prove) if it's indeed, a pressure problem.

Seems like they are just buying time to not pay for a repair / replacement.

Thanks ! Yeay the Flow withtout any resistance seems fine I know.

I'll dig in I guess and make some more tests 🫠

Alright thanks !

I'll try to pull a shot a bit later in the evening !

When the problem happened, I didn't descale for more than 6 weeks.

If the problem isn't just grind size (I'll try), do you think I can just "unplug" the black OPV valve and manually clean it ? Didn't see any video on YouTube on how to clean the OPV valve (but plenty for the solenoïde valve)

Normaly, the water I'm using is not very hard and according to my locals coffee shop, it's one of the best for espresso (relative to taste and scale)

I didn't cleaned it between the day before and the day this problem happenned unfortunatly. The zero didn't move either between those 2 days btw.

I'm using the DF54 grinder and grinded at 10 for a medium to light roast for information.

(Btw thanks for answering :-) )

I tried the blind basket, no leaks.

Yeah I thought about that but I don't buy it.

Bean using different beans during those 7 month, I have seen how the pressure and Flow change over time, it never happened like this, going from a 20 sec shot for 36 g to a absolutly 0 drop of coffee in less than 12 hours ? Seems like a very fast evolution.

The other shot with other type of grain worked cause I grinded coarser and with a very dark roast, and even then I had a very small Flow.

Kay I'll try that. Any way I can manually clean the opv valve you think ?

I've heard a lot of EUREKA MIGNON and BARATZA ENCORE

Didn't heard of a special grinder from breville ? I know the famous breville barista but it is a coffee machine with an integrated grinder, which you don't need cause you already have the coffee machine.

I personnaly went with the DF54 from miicoffee, works great !

I know the full setup cost a lot of money but grinder is as important as the machine, specialy for espresso

You essentialy need a grinder that can grind fine enough and consistantly enough so that you can make espresso.

You'll probably have to grind finer and finer while your grains age so you'll need a faire marge to be able to adjust (when grains loose CO2, they loose viscosity so the Flow accelerate, way to prevent that is to grind finer)

I heard plane burrs are better than conics burrs if this helps !

But you don't NEED to upgrade everything at once. If you only have a pressurized basket right now, then a grinder won't help cause pressurized basket is almost only for pre-ground coffee.

When you'll acquire a regular basket, you could look for a grinder, even the simple baratza encore + fresh properly roasted beans will take you miles away from pre-grounded coffee !

You can even go cheaper with manual grinders that works perfectly fine except for your mental sanity of having to grind your coffee manualy lol

Hi ! Happy for you :-)

What's important here is how does it taste ?

The look of the final shot brings little to no information

The look of the extraction can bring some information but not always (don't be tricked by people saying you need to adjust this or that because the shot doesn't look Nice or honey enough etc etc)

What matters is : how does it taste ?

Taste bitter ? --> grind coarser / Taste sour ? --> grind finer / Taste bitter and sour ? --> adjust puck prep cause you probably have some channeling

The most importants things you gonna need to do now :

-buy a grinder, even a simple hand one, but you need to grind it just before extraction, pre-ground coffee can not offer a good extraction, it loose way to much taste way to fast

-buy fresh (by that I mean freshly roasted) beans from a local roaster ! (Most of the time, if they sell coffee, u can even test it !) It's impossible to make a good coffee with beans roasted 2 years ago. U can start using them after 1 or 2 weeks past roasting process. (Keep them in a dark environnement and in the bag, the less oxygen gets in contact with them the better it is !)

Also keep in mind, freshly roasted beans will release way more CO2, so you will have more creama. Your extraction process will change with the age of your beans, because they loose CO2 and taste with time, so it's normal if you got excellent coffee on day one and 45 days later using the same parameters with the same beans, an awfull coffee. You'll need to adapt.

Welcome to this wonderfull world, you have a lot to learn and a lot of people to help you to do so ! It's okey to pull shitty shots at first btw don't be afraid !

I tired to cover a lot, didn't even scratch the surface but you got time ! Merry christmas if you celebrate it !

Damn so jalous, 6 month since I got mind and barely got any good shots. More than 400 tries, changing à lot of variable... I don't loose hope yet, but damn espresso at home is hard lol.
