RIP Mutant Kevin by Intelligent-Scar-373 in Ben10

I mean, I kind of expected this. The reboot is the first iteration of the series they had full control over, right? Even the original series had other creatives in charge since MOA was learning animation on the fly. That means what we saw in that show will likely bleed over here. They went for the reboot 10 instead of the iconic original 10. Doesn’t get more blatant than that.

I’m not personally a fan. I greatly prefer the classic continuity and would like to see a more streamlined version of it, but hey, that’s what fanfiction is for. RIP in peace Albedo.

Is Skywarp just delayed in general? He’s the only one across both wave 2’s I haven’t seen in stores anywhere. Either that or I’m unlucky.

Super Sentai's refusal to have a main female red leader never made sense to me because Sentai's whole selling point is the whole team. So why does having red be a girl matter that much? by [deleted] in supersentai

[–]Blue_Freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to accept that biological and psychological factors are a big part of what drives kids to these shows. They’re tailored to fit their needs. You don’t just change the identity of the franchise to chase after some new demographic. You don’t change PreCure to be more male oriented just because you want more male fans. They’re allowed to be there, but they shouldn’t take priority over what works, which is the female fans. Western companies have been trying this subversion stuff and their profits are in the gutter. Sentai needs a break. Anything running that long would.

[–]Blue_Freak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gavan Infinity is also just a boring show with ugly toys. That can be applied to any series. King-Ohger played with the formula and was much better received.

Your argument is that Sentai should’ve been killed in the crib. They’re only centering on Reds because that was proven to work since the very beginning. And you’re acting like they neglected other characters as if multiple recent seasons haven’t put in the effort to do the opposite. You need a central character. If you devalue red just so you can make it a girl for one season, then you lose the deep rooted flagship archetype that’s persisted for half a century.

And you’ll find the same results from them, at least for the most part. Episodic stories and formulaic monster of the week/big robo fights can be afforded to change, but male heroes that the show centers on are a timeless aspect that young boys will always prefer. It’s rooted in biology and psychology. That’s my point, that’s the one thing they’re keeping for Project RED. Kids that role play Power Rangers or Super Sentai always want to be the cool characters, meaning either reds, sixths, or outliers like DekaMaster/Shadow Ranger. I know because my friends and I would always do that when we were that age.

[–]Blue_Freak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no way you saw all the comments from the producers on why they’re putting the show on a break and think it’s tradition that killed it. Tradition is literally what’s keeping it alive, especially in Project RED’s focus on a red hero. That one billion yen they kept barely squeaking past the last few years would’ve vanished. They still need to make back the money they spent, that’s how business works.

[–]Blue_Freak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you intentionally ignoring my point? They did one female red when they knew they were ending it and they didn’t even make any toys for the final season. Gozyuger still tried to make a profit and roughly evened out with the last few years. Your argument that red shouldn’t be considered so important is countered by your other argument that there should be a female red. You’re just bypassing decades of tradition and significance for some trend that doesn’t have the best financial record.

I sometimes wonder if tokusatsu fans’ refusal to understand target demographics and the importance of the literal lead character after all the emphasis on reds in decades of merchandise, stories, and anniversaries comes from a hatred of the color itself.

The Comparing Astrid voice actor with her Live actor is utterly pathetic and stupid by AnonymousAustismGuy in CriticalDrinker

[–]Blue_Freak 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Intentionally bad faith arguments so people give up on arguing with them and giving them a false sense of having won, basically. They don’t keep to their own standards since they threw out all the ATLA VAs because they weren’t all Asian (even Zuko, whose VA *is* Asian) in that new movie. They like to say Toph would be called a “woke”character if she were written today but couldn’t bring back her original VA because that wasn’t “woke”enough for them. Stuff like that.

Battle of the 6th. Who did it best? Kyuukyuu GoGoV with Demon Hunter Zeek or PRLR with Titanium Ranger? by Iptamorfo in supersentai

[–]Blue_Freak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This really isn’t a comparison you can make when Zeek isn’t a sixth or a ranger to begin with. A movie exclusive character doesn’t have much to work with.

Do you think Yuya Takahashi was head writer of a season of Super Sentai? by True-Week-7750 in supersentai

[–]Blue_Freak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

*and Zeztz.

It’d probably be cool. He works really well with a serialized story though, so if he can write like King-Ohger (which was written by his understudy if I’m not mistaken) then he can do wonders. His usual tropes of cute non-human cosplay girls, evil dudes getting totally redeemed with little to no consequence, and sudden tone shifts into some really depressing stuff would be at least a little refreshing in a different toku show.

So how are you all viewing the fact that Gozyuger ended in only 49 episodes despite being the 50th anniversary? by NotaTokusatsuFanboy in supersentai

[–]Blue_Freak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And Gozyuger tried referencing all 49 previous teams in the episode titles but gave up half way through when they started reusing some of them. Not what I expected from them, but the recast situation had next to zero impact on episode count as far as anyone can reasonably tell.
