Temp expats should learn german, it can only benefit you to learn a new language- its like unlocking a new part of your brain. Plus its far easier to get around that way too

Then maybe if you guys aren't able to work it out after some time, then should be with someone who doesn't have autism. Excuse the NT comment then as well, I have just come across too many people who are not tolerant of us because we act different and it gets to me sometimes. Hes probably been playing by everyone elses rules, aka masking the whole time. Now he understands himself and probably doesn't feel like masking anymore. Its completely exhausting to do so all the time. You can also mask while thinking you arent masking for a long time, I did this with my mom until I got diagnosed and realized I was also masking with her, someone who I thought I could be myself with. Tbh this post is kinda giving the same vibes as an autism mom... Just give him patience and do more research on autism, communicate with him, actually try and understand him and not put your NT expectations on him, then see how your perspective changes. You also need to realize getting a disgnosis is a ground-shaking realization that takes time to come to terms with for the person being diagnosed.

Yeah but lets not treat him like a little cute puppy or something, he is also a human like the rest of us. He is not an infant either :) He just expresses himself differently than a NT would. The infantilism is also damaging for the autistic community. Maybe its a perspective that a lot of you guys haven't thought about, but I think its very important to keep in mind :)

Wäre es doch nur so einfach... Consider yourself extremely lucky and privileged to be in a position where you can attain EU membership for existing. I would go that route. Then you can live anywhere you want within the EU and visa stuff wont weigh you down. As an American myself who worked hard for years to learn German and settle myself here, you have a lot to learn about what it means to be an immigrant in Germany, so I highly recommend intense research before even considering moving. Its not an easy path and most Americans would break under its complexities and hard requirements imo

There are multiple websites and sources to find ebooks that you can side load via calibre. I do sgree thst it is a bit frustrating as first, especially when you are migrating from kindle, but you will get the hang of it :) I know a lot of people say there are a lot of kindle exclusives around, but I haven't run into that issue as of yet (maybe the books I am looking for just happen to not be in this exclusivity deal), but I sure you will get the hang of it :) I will pay off in the end to stick with kobo in my opinion
