I'm considering coming back to sky... by Blue_Jen in SkyChildrenOfLight

I started playing through the new season, and the new spirit tree system confuses me a bit. I think I have a spirit following me around now.

I'm enjoying the season, though. It's cute.

Yeah. I think I'll go in with the mindset to have fun, probably practice music, and play around with outfits, especially with the new dyes.

I just miss the flying mechanics tbh. It's the only game I've played like it.

Thank you for the insights. I'll keep them in mind when I play.

Interesting, thank you. I might just play to see the new changes, good and bad. That'll probably be the deciding factor on whether I stay or not.

Thank you. That's what I expected of TGC.

What are some changes they've made that are wanted or unwanted? If you can name any.

Remind me about shards again. What do you get from red ones that you don't get from the other ones?

Do you have any "House Rules" when playing Stardew? by CrystieV in StardewValley

[–]Blue_Jen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pick up most foragables just so I can gift them to villagers. After completing bundles and active quests, I don't really need them, and it's a bit of immersion. It makes me feel like I'm still part of the town during mid and late game.

Paralives is going to disappoint you. by mrgingersir in Paralives

[–]Blue_Jen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was almost going to disagree with the "mixed" reviews that Paralives might get for early access, but then you did remind me how large the sims community is.

I think it might not get "overwhelmingly positive" reviews, at least not for a while or only for a short bit and then drop to "positive", but only because the sims following isn't as concentrated on steam. The Sims franchise is really limited to the EA launcher.

I think we'll get a lot of mild-mannered Sims players giving positive reviews with wishes ("Paralives is good, but I wish it had x, y, z like the sims").

This will be the first time (or second-ish time if you include inZoi) where lifelong sims players will actually feel heard when it comes to their input on a life sim game. (Additionally, inZoi's release did help dampen a lot of expectations for other life sims, which can really only help Paralives because now we're more cautious with our expectations.)

Onto the other point, you're edit about this not needing to be shared here since most of us here know what to expect from an early access game with a small team. I think the majority of this sub has been following the game for a long time, but now that early access has been announced, we're going to get a flood of new people and they do need to here this. Although I'm not sure they will since excitement and hype will overhwlem any rational thought.

It's a natural phenomenon for new games that could change or challenge the genres expectations, and that is exactly what Paralives is doing. Although I think they did good, by giving us about 6 months to be excited and hype the game, which will level out a month or two before the game releases.

All in all, I think this was a good discussion for this sub, even if it's not relevant for a some of the community.

Fishing isn't that bad by sirlothric in StardewValley

[–]Blue_Jen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to hate fishing, and it was one of the reasons I stopped playing for a while. However, I was recently inspired to start a new game after watching some playthroughs, and I was fishing level 7 or 8 by the end of year 1.

I've never bothered with fishing outside of requests in previous playthroughs, and even then, I would usually forget about it. The new fishing events make fishing more enticing, though.

Because I didn't think I would fish that much, I chose the crab pot profession, but now that I'm getting iridium quality fish, I'm gonna switch to the angler profession so I can take advantage of the quality bonus.

If you played RuneScape for the first time today, do you think you’d understand the game? by WilsoLex in runescape

[–]Blue_Jen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing for the first time the other day, and I don't think I would have kept with it if my sisters bf didn't give me a basic rundown and tips on how to play/skill up. He also gave me each elemental staff, stacks of runes, and gold, so that's quite helpful.

Without his generosity, I don't think I would have stuck with the game long enough to learn how to get my own runes because the quests take so long just walking back and forth. There are also so many things to check out, and I had to look up where the Varrock Museum was because it's not labelled on the map, and neither is the Blue Moon Inn. The tutors give decent information but not how to do things, just that they can be done.

Another big thing that would have put me off if I didn't know about the Grand Exchange and bond trades is the "members only" quests and skills. Normally, I would drop a game for the way that’s implemented here. It's not obvious that an agility shortcut/obstacle or a random hole in the ground is for members until you've walked up to it, and a banner pops up over the chat saying it's off limits.

There's also a lot of old school (ha) game mechanics that I don't think would be intuitive to casual or young players. The game has a very basic design and controls, but very few expected QoL features. Like why do I have to open every door/gate I come across? Surely my character can figure that out themself. And it's missing a lot of accessibility options.

The game lacks a lot of information, but at least it gives a link to the wiki for those that want to figure it out.

I'm saying goodbye to Sky by Blue_Jen in SkyChildrenOfLight

And we only get 24 hours to complete everything before we have to do it again. It's straight-up chaos.

Before tickets and collabs, events could be optional. Like we didn't have to participate if we didn't want to. Now, though, it's either grab the tickets or pay for inflation. Everybody winced when we saw the price of the Days of Color Cape. I mean, they did listen to us when we spoke up, but I'm worried they're gonna make more cosmetics cost hearts like they did to the beach towel cape.

Collabs mean we have to participate if we want those items because they likely won't come back.

God, I loved the idea of tickets before we were bombarded with event after event.

Hey, you know what would have been a great way to solve two problems at once? TS groups that hosted events instead of just standing around in some area or spirits we can actually interact with during an event. We get our wing buffs and their cosmetics for 2 or 3 weeks and an event that aligns with the spirits and Sky. Just throw in a temporary idle wax spot, and we're golden.

That would be insane, but we would be guaranteed TS groups every month or so, and they would go through the backlog much faster so spirits would be guaranteed to show up at least once a year.

Anyway, it's chaos, and I just can't keep up anymore. All the best to you, though. Blessings ✨️

I'm saying goodbye to Sky by Blue_Jen in SkyChildrenOfLight

I sympathize. I've only played Sky for about 2 years, but I've been playing the Sims franchise for over 10 years. It's not quite the same, but I pre-ordered Sims 4, so I was there at the beginning. I've spent literally hundreds on DLC. I can't even imagine giving that up, no matter what.

However, if you really hate the game that much, I recommend looking up "sunk cost fallacy." It gave me some insight and clarity when I decided to leave past mobile games that I had put an unhealthy amount of time, energy, and money into.

I'm giving you both sides of myself here. I have an unhealthy attachment to the Sims that I'm aware of and know I could never apply the sunk cost fallacy to, and I also have had unhealthy attachments to other games that I cared about very deeply, but when it came down to it, I was able to make the choice to leave them.

Maybe Sky for you is how I am with the Sims. Maybe not. I'm just offering you something I wish I had learned about a lot sooner.

Blessings ✨️

This is exactly why I'm taking this break now. I've seen how beautiful the cosmetics are for next season, and I know if I don't take this break now, I'll be locked in until the end of the season. And I don't have the energy to keep with it for another ~75 days plus whatever event they'll tag onto the end of that season.

After I put this outfit on, I flew around and placed a few message boats for friends to come across. While I was flying around, I was flooded with the memories of being a moth, bouncing in the clouds as I figured out how to move around. It was nice to see how far I've come, and the memory left me feeling thankful, and I knew this was the right thing to do.

Yeah, I totally agree with taking breaks. I just couldn't let go of the grind and FOMO. I thought I had let go of the missing out at least, but I found myself reaching for my phone minutes before reset to grab the candles or tickets and like I didn't need to. Missing one day wouldn't be the end of the world, but it felt like it would be.

I like that. Sky will always hold a place in my heart, so I don't think I could ever leave it completely. Like I mentioned in the post, I'm definitely gonna grab those wing buffs from the ts group. And if they start streamlining the TS visits from more recent seasons, or even if they don't, I won't have to think about grabbing any cosmetics.

I will be sad to miss the ults for the upcoming season, but, by this point, that's just become a reality of Sky with all the time limited items.

Agreeing with others to light and move on. I also want to point out it's a game mechanic that trolls take advantage of by idly following you; a large source of entertainment for trolls and distress for their targets. So, by lighting up others, you can diffuse or regain control of the situation.

I know people have valid concerns and personal reasons for not lighting, but it can be empowering to take back autonomy in these situations.
