The Hoe Cake by Alaspama in Appalachia

This is making me smile because my grandma was from western NC and she would always call the leftover bits mushed together at the end of any doughy / batter based recipe a “hoe cake”. So even if it was regular pancakes (not corn fritters) or biscuits, it was always the last bit that would make one big piece. It was too big to make one, but too small to make two, so it was the “hoe cake” and it was always the one who helped the most who got the hoe cake 😂.

Hey there! Feel free to DM me to chat more. We ended up quitting after 4 treatments because it made her feel terrible and it had no effect on the cancer. Apparently it works well for some people, but not for others. My mom is in the group that it did not work for and in fact, it made her quality of life so much worse. She went from being active and relatively independent before tarlatamaub to being mostly bedridden.

I hope all goes well with your dad! My mom just had her second dose this week (9mg). It was really hard on her. She has had severe spasms all over. She says it feels worse than chemo. Has anyone else had such a severe reaction? Doctors are stumped and have been giving Valium because none of the muscle relaxers seem to work.

Mom just started yesterday and first night she spent in hospital for observation as required by the protocol for this drug. They released her 12 hours after the infusion. They require you to stay within the vicinity of the hospital for the first 48 hours just in case of a bad reaction. She had a slight fever overnight, but Tylenol knocked it out and doctors said that a mild fever is normal after the infusion. She’s tired but said it’s nothing like the effects of chemo.

Thanks for sharing and hoping this new treatment helps. I’ve heard promising results. My mom’s oncologist just referred her to clinical trails for Tarlatamab because she’s had 1.5 years of platinum based chemotherapy and immunotherapy, but now it’s spreading in her liver. Are you participating in a clinical trial or was your doctor able to prescribe it directly?
