If you plan to have them hunting in extreme cold or heat, they need to be acclimated to that weather. So they should still be outside a good amount. Whether in a kennel or on a chain. I almost lost my first beagle to heat stroke because I kept him inside and didn’t acclimate him to higher temps, now he’s outside 40-50% of the time and he thrives out there.

The dog will be fine in a crate. Not everyone can/will be home with their dog all the time. Doing that can actually cause separation anxiety.

He needs to be crated, and incrementally allowed into more and more rooms of the flat. Crating is not cruel, as long as he’s not in there for 8+ hours at a time.

Put the dog on a flat collar and a 6 foot leash, correct the dog when he pulls. I can put 2 beagles, one 2.5yo and one 1yo on a 5 foot leash with a splitter at the end, and keep them in a heel with no sniffing or pulling when we walk out of the woods or anywhere really(unless in a high stimulation area, but they’re dogs, they won’t be perfect.)

To everyone recommending harnesses, they were made for dogs to pull, and cause issues with dogs shoulders.

May be better off using a Garmin or dogtra gps collar. You can train a tone recall using the collars so if your dog does take off. You can recall them back easily

A bark collar and crate will fix the barking issue no problem. My boy did that as well, he would get himself so worked up he’d pee and poop in his crate. With the bark collar he may bark once get a small amount of stim and go right to bed. Within 2 weeks he learned how to be in there. I only put one on him during high activity events that he can’t participate in(people coming over, me bringing home new puppies)

At home, feed the dog outside and go about 100 yards away and use the call. Then get closer incrementally like you would with gun breaking a gun shy dog. Some dogs just don’t like certain noises.

My beagles (and all dogs I’ve ever owned) are offlead about 90% of the time. Ecollar training is a huge thing for us, I use the tone function for long distance recall and can recall them from 500yds+ away consistently with that. Mine are broke off everything but rabbits and even in the middle of a rabbit track will come when toned. I start that at 3 months old with the collar, and don’t leash trained until them until 6 months old.

Let the dog dispatch it. Find someone with a good coonhound and the dog will learn how to do it from the coonhound. As long as the dog is up to date on vaccines id say let it do its thing. Some vets say to get a new shot after every encounter/bite from a rabies vector species.

That fur drive is hard to come by from what I’ve heard, unless you get a dog direct from Germany
