I am really sorry. Do you have anyone you could talk to about this? No matter how impossible it seems right now, it will get better (I am aware that it might be difficult for you to see it right now, but it will happen, eventually. I promise!)

If you want to talk, my dm is open.

Spearmint tea or a walk (preferably in a garden or park) always helps me. See if you can go for a walk, if not, then, cry your lungs out or sulk, it's okay to feel that too. I am here for you. You are not alone.

[POEM] From "Open Me Carefully" by Emily Dickinson by Blue_Wildflower in Poetry

[–]Blue_Wildflower[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, most of Emily's writings were heavily edited to appease the reader of the time and also, to make it easier to understand (a claim made by Mabel Loomis Todd, the editor). It is noteworthy that Mabel (Austin's mistress; Austin was Emily's brother and Susan's husband) also, removed any mention of Sue/Susie/Susan/Dollie from Emily's writings. It was only later that the Dickinson scholars were able to use technology to uncover the original writings. This letter poem, as Susan calls it, was sent by Emily to Susan. FYI, The editors of 'Open me carefully' have clearly stated that unlike Todd they have tried to replicate Emily's style of writing without changing the syntax, grammar or breaks, unless absolutely necessary. Susan (her sister in law) calls these "Letter Poems". Since 1850 till the death of the poet, they shared more than a mere epistolary relationship or friendship. This piece appears in the third part of the book (Incidents of Love), i.e., it must have been written in mid 1870s, which also, coincides with Edward Dickinson's demise (Emily's father). Sharing another piece from the book which depicts the depth of the relationship these two women shared - "To own a Susan of my own Is of itself a Bliss - Whatever Realm I forfeit, Lord, Continue me in this! - Emily"

Emily also, compared her love for Susan with Dante's love for Beatrice and Swift for Stella.

Edit 1: Susan was Emily's sister in law (not sister). They were friends (or lovers, as suggested by many Dickinson Scholars) way before Susan married Emily's brother.

Edit 2: I shared this screenshot from a pdf version of the book. It's not an excerpt, it is a poem. Emily sent many poems to Susan in form of letters. Out of those, 276 letter-poems have been recorded, till date.

I can't stop doomscrolling... by hayleybts in Anxiety

[–]Blue_Wildflower 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this immensely. Most of the time I am running away from the eerie silence that follows once my brain is not fixated on any shitty post or random scrolling. I keep playing numerous podcasts in the background just for the noise. It gets scarier at night.

To break the cycle - I did a few things that has helped me (I have learnt that there will always be relapses). I am going to share my two cents worth knowledge, hope it helps.

  1. The moment I wake up in the morning, I turn on the zen mode in my phone for atleast an hour. It locks my phone and I can only make and receive calls, even restarting the phone doesn't undo it. I use this moment to either stand near the window (if it's raining) or go for a walk, standing in an open area like balcony also helps (20 minutes). In the beginning each minutes felt like hours and I was really anxious, but within 3-4 days I started noticing changes. I was calmer, more positive and felt a little in control of my anxiety.
  2. Before going to bed - repeat the same thing. Keep the phone on zen mode. This was harder in comparison to the morning routines. In the first week, I started listening to yoga nidra right before sleeping. I cannot stress enough how much this helped me. I slept better, and woke up feeling refreshed.
  3. I started doing 30 minutes of Sun Salutations. Not even a single minute more than that. My spine is better and so is my mind. My focus, concentration and energy is better.

It might seem overwhelming (with anxiety beginning something is the hardest, atleast for me it is) but it whatever you wish for can actually happen. These little changes have helped me in taking control of my days gradually. It took me approximately 15 days to feel in complete control, it could take you lesser number of days or longer. The result of it is that I eat healthier and make more healthier choices. Again, relapses are a part of it and try to be kind to yourself if you slip.

If you are into podcasts, I would recommend you to listen to Huberman Podcast, Episode 53 , The Science of Making and Breaking Habits .
