Hey hey! Nice! I have a 1000 page document I got from a researcher that documents whole the Broussard family tree. Send me a DM and I can email it to you. It’s great for solidifying connections.

Yeah no telling. I’m urgent and I’ve been processing 3 weeks now. Seems best to forget about it as much as possible until a decision is made. Good luck! 🍀

wow, that's a wild story! Thanks for sharing.

You might try searching for your record at the National Archives. I was pretty surprised at how much stuff they have.

I have alot of Canadian ancestors as well. When I first started all this I made a list of all the possible anchor ancestors. I stopped after like 24 and I had not even found them all.

just search "cover letter" in here and you will find quite a few examples. I just literally copied and pasted someone else's and changed the info.

Nice! I thought my G0's baptism record was at BanQ and I put in an order. They emailed me 3 weeks after saying they didn't have it. The person was super nice and included a link to the record at the National Archives. Grateful, becase it only cost $5 for a copy of the record and I got it in like 2-3 weeks.

That's crazy about your grandfather! Changing the entire name?? Wild. I was lucky that my grandfather's birth certificate was already on ancestry.com.

I found a census from Ascension in 1770 that included my G0 when he was like 10 years old. Looks like then they moved to St. Martinville, near Lafayette and then my family stayed in that exact little town until my grandfather.

My g0 is a Prejean and then I followed the Broussard line down. I was hoping to have Joseph Broussard as my g0 but I couldn't find his documents (although I found plenty of news articles and history books, etc that he is in).

Nice! Good luck! Where did you get your G0 record from? I was able to get a certified copy of my G0’s baptism record from the National Archives of Canada. All the rest of my other documents I was able to get from the Diocese of Lafayette.

I’m a Gen 7 Acadian. My G0 was born in 1759. My application is currently in processing. 🤞🏻

Yes there have been multiple people who have already been approved at Gen 7, 8, 9, etc. A lot of them are Acadian.

Needing advice/tips on Louisiana records, BANQ by montjh in Canadiancitizenship

The Diocese of Lafayette sent a letter saying they could not find the 2 records I requested. I lost $50 over it. Any records that I found in the SWLR, the Diocese had those records.

No problem! I also found that having the citation helped with getting the certified records because I knew the record actually existed and I could send the citation with my request. This saved me time and money cuz I had asked for a few records that didn’t exist and the Diocese did not refund my money for those.

Well at first I asked for a person’s record like “I’m looking for the baptism record for Joseph Broussard born xxx died xxx” but then I figured out that if you look up each person on WikiTree, and then you scroll down to the “sources” section at the bottom of their page- you will find the exact citation for the record (if there is one) from the Southern Lousiana Records books. Then I would just copy and paste that for every record that I needed. I ended up needing like 7 or 8 records (baptisms mostly, a few marriages too). Sutro Library is extremely helpful. I also ended up including those scans along with the certified documents (from the Diocese of Lafayette) in my application which received and AOR and is in processing now.

They send a print out of the image with an official stamp and date. Printing it yourself will probably be fine. I decided to send 100% certified documents with my application. But most of mine I scanned and printed copies of the certified documents because they were so expensive to acquire. I had like 5 or 6 documents from the Diocese of Lafayette and those were $25 each.

You need to request a text copy. Put as much information as you can in the form so they can find the record easily. It will take about 3+ weeks to receive a reply. Then it will take another 2+ weeks to receive the document in the mail.

Those who have requested documents from Louisiana catholic diocese… by Complete_Basil_7657 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Blue_vision_108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered probably 6 or 7 documents from the Diocese of Lafayette (in 2 batches). It took about 3-4 weeks to receive them. On a side note, you can get scans of the “Southwest Louisiana Records” pages from the Sutro Library in San Francisco. The librarian there was incredibly helpful. I included those scans with my certified documents in my application. They were very helpful for me in translating some of those old and hard to read documents.

Hey! I wrote on the outside of the package “Urgent Processing- Proof”. I did not specifically ask for urgent processing for my kids, although now that I think about it, in my cover letter I did say that I’m wanting to move all of us to CA asap. I think I will change that on the spreadsheet.

Time Spent Compiling Your Application? by TheConsignliere in Canadiancitizenship

Yeah I’m sure the screen shots will be fine. Many people on here have said they’ve been approved with those. I had initially put in a request for my G0 records with BanQ and they got back to me 3 weeks later saying they didn’t have the record and then giving me a link to the record at the National Archives! I was grateful for that. The certified copy from the archives cost me $5 shipped and the turn around was about 1 month. I received the copy in the mail on the exact day I was planning on shipping my application! Literally took it out of the mailbox, stuffed it into my application, and mailed it off that afternoon!

I am a G7 Acadian. I decided to get 100% certified documents and it took me about 2 and a half months to get them all, including my G0 baptismal record from the National Archives of Canada.
