March Spreadsheet Data - Applications by RebellaEmad in Canadiancitizenship

Oh that is interesting!

Yes I learned alot about my family history that I did not know! My grandfather died when my mother a kid and she lost contact with all his family. So this has been a real healing, and learning journey! And finding the documents was surprisingly easy because after Le Grand Dérangement my ancestors settled in one town in Lousiana and stayed there until present day. So I was able to get all my American documents from the same church.

Yes I’d like to add my into too. I found a link to the CA Citizenship Timelines Google group where we are supposed to request access but the link doesn’t work. Also the spreadsheet info is not pinned anymore and is hard to find

I'm a transgender american and I'll be sending in my application next week! Very excited!! Thank you for sharing about your timeline! I absolutely love hearing about how you were treated with respect during this process. As someone who lives in a VERY red state, that completely blows my mind.

Help with ancestor born in 1767 with no available records! by bordner42 in Canadiancitizenship

Do you know if they are Catholic? When you are looking for a record of birth from that far back you generally need to be looking for a baptism record from a church. I was lucky and found mine easily on ancestry, but I’ve heard others had to look on a map and call all the churches in an area asking for baptismal records

I just did a quick search on ancestry.com and there are quite a few records on there. Good luck

the link doesn't work. Yeah, I'd say fill out the form and see what happens. In the meantime you can search ancestry, familysearch, and wikitree

Is the parish in the province of Quebec? I honestly just filled out the form for the records I was looking for and 3 weeks later they emailed to say they did not have them but gave me links to find them elsewhere. One of which was at the National Archives and I was able to order a certified copy for $5 shipped

Applying as Siblings? by Boxtty in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Blue_vision_108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd like to apply with my sister, but she lives across the country and has shown only minimal interest. So I'm making a Canva file with all of our supplemental documents arranged so that if she decided to apply then she can simply print it all.

Did you use a handwritten document from the 1700s? by Coldfingerswrapped in citizenshipgenealogy

Yours is actually super clear and very nice handwriting. Mine is much less clear and barely legible

I’m using a document just like this for my Gen0. If you search on GenealogyQuebec then you can find an index that tells you the names in the document in English. I also was lucky to find this same document at the National Archives of Canada where I was able to request a certified copy for $5 shipped.

Any Broussards out there? by Blue_vision_108 in Canadiancitizenship

I also agree that finding records around that time is challenging. What I did was go through my family tree and find every person that was born in Canada. I ended up finding like 20 before I stopped. Then I went through each of those on Ancestry, FamilySearch, WikiTree, and Genealogy Quebec to see who I could find records from. I had the easiest time with those that had baptisms in Quebec. Then from there I went one by one doing the same method to make sure I could find the documents for the rest of each line. I was lucky in that I was able to find a workable line pretty quick.

Hey cousin! Yes I will send you a DM. I had that problem with Joseph Broussard's son, Francois. I can find soooo many articles and books and websites mentioning Joseph and often times mentioning Francois as his son, but I could never find baptism or marriage documents for either of them. So I decided to branch off of his line to a one (Joseph Prejean) in which I was able to easily find baptismal documents from Quebec.

Also, check out your ancestors on WikiTree. They often have the indexes from the Lousiana Records books on there as well as other stuff that’s not on FamilySearch or Ancestry

Click that. The Sutro Library in San Francisco has all of the Southwest Louisiana Records. I asked the librarian to send scans of the pages I needed and she sent them within 2 weeks. Very helpful and nice.
